About us

All people have a right to a clean and healthy environment in which their communities can live, work, learn, play and thrive. Towards this vision, APEN brings together a collective voice to develop an alternative agenda for environmental, social and economic justice. Through building an organized movement, we strive to bring fundamental changes to economic and social institutions that will prioritize public good over profits and promote the right of every person to a decent, safe, affordable quality of life, and the right to participate in decisions affecting our lives. APEN holds this vision of environmental justice for all people. Our work focuses on Asian and Pacific Islander communities.

  • Many of you may be feeling angry, scared, numb, or resigned about the election results. Us too. The right-wing forces we are up against aren’t going away anytime soon. Luckily, neither are we. We know that we can – and will – get through this together. From the Black Freedom Struggle to movements in our homelands against war and imperialism, we take inspiration from ordinary people who have come together to dismantle Jim Crow, end apartheid in South Africa, and take down military dictatorships in Korea and the Philippines. Time and time again, our communities have stood up for a world where all people have the resources we need to live full, dignified lives. Now, it’s time to get organized. This Friday at 4pm, we’re organizing a mass call for people in California who want to learn more about how the election will impact our Asian immigrant and refugee communities in California – and who are ready to get organized together. RSVP: apen.us/2024

  • For over a century, working families in Richmond have picked up the bill for Chevron’s pollution. This year, Richmond made history — forcing the oil giant to offer up $550 million to fund essential services and a #JustTransition. Building on *decades* of organizing against Chevron, our communities came together behind a new idea: a #PollutersPay tax that would make big polluters pay for the damage they've caused. Our communities got creative, and Chevron got scared — to the tune of $550 million. Now, frontline communities across the country are paying attention — and Richmond is leading the way. “It was always our intention to set a precedent." - Megan Zapanta, APEN Richmond Organizing Director Find out more about what went down in Richmond this year ➡ https://lnkd.in/g3gbtnCx

  • Our APEN Night Market was such a beautiful celebration – thank you to everyone who attended or supported our 30th anniversary celebration from afar! Together, we celebrated 30 years of grassroots organizing, power building, and transformation. For everyone who attended – we deeply appreciate it, and we hope you had as much fun as we did. This event wouldn’t have been possible without our Asian immigrant and refugee members that drive our vision and work, our staff and board who planned the event, our generous sponsors, and our community of supporters near and far. Thank you. We also want to acknowledge that this has been a challenging year for many of us, as rising fascism and climate catastrophes threaten the people and places we love. In times like these, it is more important than ever to celebrate what we have built together – and forge powerful connections as we fight for a Just Transition. Lastly: to keep growing our grassroots organizing for environmental justice over the next 30 years, we need your support. If you haven’t already, please consider becoming an APEN monthly donor today: https://lnkd.in/gdShrfA3 Photos by the amazing Ryan Sin @ryansinphoto #EnvironmentalJustice #environment #climate #asian #aapi #asianamerican #nightmarket #APEN30

  • We are so grateful for all the enthusiasm our partners, community, and allies have shown for APEN’s 30th Anniversary. For 30 years, APEN has fought and won campaigns to make our communities healthier, just places where people can thrive — and we are so excited to celebrate that legacy with you at our APEN Night Market this year. Unfortunately, due to limited capacity we have had to close registration for our upcoming Night Market event on July 20. We did not expect such overwhelming interest and apologize to anyone who was not able to register in time to attend! If you already registered, we CAN'T WAIT to see you this Saturday! 🎉 Please keep an eye out for more details via email over the next day or two. If you weren't able to register in time, we would love to see you at a future event in one of our organizing regions (Richmond, Oakland, or Los Angeles). Thank you so much for supporting our work! In community, Team APEN
