Today is World Nature Conservation Day, a chance for us to recognize the need to protect species and habitats across the planet. 🌎 It’s why we created the Apex Conservation Grant Program: we wanted our projects to benefit the environment beyond the carbon emissions they avoid.

Battery storage is a unique technology that helps connect wind and solar generation with the needs of the electrical grid. It’s the perfect complement to clean energy because it can store excess power when demand is low, and then deploy it when the need arises—supporting a more reliable and resilient electrical grid.

I signed for my kids (and yours too). Yesterday, I had the pleasure of visiting Timbermill Wind in North Carolina (go Heels!) for the blade signing. A blade signing is a celebration of a project by landowners, project supporters, community members, elected officials, and of course, Apexers. We are here for it! Thank you, Chowan County, for hosting us and making us feel at home! Y’all were so welcoming and generous. Speakers, you were compelling, funny, and gracious. Ever the consummate professionals, Site Staff, you made our visit a safe one, despite getting 4+ inches of rain in the last 2 weeks. Thank you all for a fantastic visit! As a person with kids, the thing that stuck with me most was about kids and the future. A member of the school board spoke about the impact this project will have on *their* kids. Apex will be the largest taxpayer in the county, and he sees that as a boon to their school system, without having to raise local taxes. He spoke of competitive pay for their teachers, the importance of quality and variety in the classroom, and how he wants to equip his students to hold their own when they graduate. Those are things every parent wishes for their kids – a solid education and a secure future. So here’s to continuing that work. Back to it! #lifeatapex #gettowork #forthekids

Yesterday, nearly 300 community leaders, landowners, and Apexers gathered in Edenton, North Carolina, to celebrate the construction of Timbermill Wind with a turbine blade signing. Governor Roy Cooper joined us to share remarks about the importance of the economic impact of wind energy and to sign his name on one of the 242-foot long blades. The 189-megawatt facility is projected to generate up to $33 million in tax revenue in its lifetime to support local schools and government services, becoming Chowan County’s largest taxpayer during its first year of operations. Upon completion, Timbermill Wind will be the second wind farm ever built in the state and the first built since 2017. The project is less than four hours away from Apex’s home office, so this event gave our team the opportunity to see our company’s work firsthand. After the event, the Apex team visited downtown Edenton to grab lunch and get to know our partner community even better. Read more: https://bit.ly/3LCL7Rp

There’s a growing awareness of the reliability and cost benefits that battery storage helps create for clean power generation. 🔋 This year, 81% of new capacity installed to the U.S. grid will be solar and storage—a pairing that supports the long-term resilience of our energy systems.
Battery storage is key to scaling up solar and wind power. Here's why.

Federal, state, and local policies each affect clean energy development in unique ways—building a wind, solar, or storage project requires careful coordination with every level of governmental organization. Apex Explains, with Laura Merten:
