Every American deserves to live in their communities safely. No one should have to fear being attacked at the store, visiting City Hall, or voting at the polls. But every election year, provocateurs stoke fear about communities that don’t look like, love like, or worship like they do as a political strategy. And these tactics can spur their supporters to take violent action like the January 6th attack, mass shootings, and the recent bomb threat in Springfield, Ohio. AAPIs have experienced this oppressive cause-and-effect during the pandemic when our communities endured a rise in anti-Asian hate and violence because of the reckless political rhetoric certain politicians used for political gain. APIAVote stands for political discourse that values respect for our freedoms to live without fear of violence, to cast our votes and have them counted, and to decide for ourselves what our futures will hold.
