What is the Appalachian Leadership Institute all about? Justin Kearley, MPH might have said it best. "40 Fellows. 9 Months. 7 Sessions. Forever Friends." ✨ ALI is a unique training opportunity because of its combination of skill-building and networking. (Watch the video to hear more about that from the fellows!) We're so proud of what the 2023-24 class has accomplished together already, and all the things they'll do in the future. Congratulations, fellows. And welcome to the ALI alumni network. 💙

Federal Co-Chair Gayle Manchin joined EnergyCommunities and other federal partners at The White House this week! She spoke about the Biden-Harris Administration's historic investments in rural America, which includes the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). Through BIL, we were able to launch READY Appalachia and help Appalachian communities better access and manage federal funds. 💸 To date, READY has offered no-cost training to 204 local development districts, local governments and nonprofits, and awarded $5.6 million for capacity-building projects! For more on the impact BIL funds are having in Appalachia, visit www.arc.gov/bil/.

It's a bittersweet week! 💙 Our Appalachian Leadership (ALI) fellows are in Washington, D.C., for their final session and graduation. This year's cohort gathered seven times in communities across Appalachian Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and West Virginia. ✨ They worked with ARC staff, ALI alumni and leaders from across the region to build skills and plan for the future of economic development of their communities. And this week, they didn't let a little rain stop them from enjoying D.C.'s sights. ☔ Next up: their graduation ceremony! Stay tuned for photos from the big event tomorrow.

Great news for Appalachia from The White House today! 📣 The EnergyCommunities AmeriCorps project will place volunteers in coal-impacted communities to support workforce development, sustainability and local economic development plans. 🌱 Funding from ARC, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Department of the Interior and Bloomberg Philanthropies will help Conservation Legacy recruit 150 members to serve in nine federal coal regions - including Appalachian Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia! The project is part of the American Climate Corps, a workforce training initiative to prepare the next generation for new jobs in clean energy, climate resilience and more. ♻️ We're so excited to see how this will strengthen Appalachian coal communities! Looking for a charming and vibrant downtown to visit in Appalachian North Carolina? Check out Elkin! That's where Federal Co-Chair Gayle Manchin was last week, visiting grant partners who are working with local businesses to fill local storefronts and bring visitors to local trails. 🎉 Nearby is Moses Cones House Memorial Park, located on the Blue Ridge Parkway that connects North Carolina and Virginia. At Moses Cones, Co-Chair Manchin met with National Park Service staff to learn more about tourism development in the area. 🏞️ We hope you enjoyed joining FedCo on the road! 🚗 We're so proud of the impact our partners are making in Elkin and beyond!
