"Poverty is an industry that can be dismantled." Lebohang Liepollo Pheko, senior research fellow at Trade Collective, offers a nuanced critique of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Pheko argues that the SDGs are rooted in flawed development models that prioritise economic growth over addressing structural inequalities. Instead, she advocates for redefining poverty to emphasise power, autonomy, and dignity. Watch the 17-minute talk to explore how we can address poverty and inequality through alternative frameworks such as wellbeing and solidarity economies: https://lnkd.in/gQE6sjyh Trade Collective is a #Feminist think tank working with economists, activists, political scientists, researchers and women’s movements from Afrika and beyond. Trade Collective resists the colonial power relations embodied in global trade and governance systems and insteads centres intersectional Majority World perspectives in all their analyses and resistance. Welcome to Becoming Monster, an ecology of spaces to feel, share, experiment and practice opening ourselves to the unknown, the unthinkable and unsayable. The aim of the festival is not to identify or name monsters, nor to redraw hard lines around the right and the good. Becoming Monster isn’t a prescription to cure the world’s ills. It is an exploration into a different materiality of grief and care in a time of loss, a celebration of our failures to become, an invitation to reimagine, re-feel and re-intuit what else it might mean to be human beyond the carceral narratives of white modernity. Register now for the five-day festival from October 30 - November 3 hosted by The Emergence Network. There will be virtual, hybrid and in-person events.
