What a fun time to bring Aptima work to my alma mater. Thank you to Meredith Carroll , Matthew Taylor, and the ATLAS Lab at Florida Tech for giving us the opportunity to bring some of our research to you. My colleagues Cherrise Ficke, Jonathan Reynolds, and myself traveled to Florida Tech to demonstrate an XR simulation of laser dazzle events and the visual impariments they cause (like scotomas). Laser strikes are happening more and more everyday, and multiple student pilots had experienced laser strikes before! Thank you to Meredith and Matt for the opportunity to show off the project in development and gathering feedback to make it a useful tool for aviation training programs. The ATLAS Lab members (pictured below) also got the opportunity to try it out and chat about how we go about designing systems with human factors at the forefront. And—as always—I had to bring some training simulations from the Gaming Research Integration for Learning Lab (GRILL®). Who doesn't love to jump out of a plane in VR? Excited to implement some of the feedback and see Stephanie Fussell at Kent State soon!

Today, we observe Indigenous Peoples' Day, a time to honor the rich histories, cultures, and lasting contributions of Indigenous communities. This day encourages reflection on the resilience and strength of Indigenous peoples while acknowledging the challenges they continue to face. At Aptima, we remain dedicated to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion, rooted in our CORE principles: Culture, Ownership, Respect, and Engagement. We are taking this opportunity to reflect, learn, and explore how we can support Indigenous communities, both within our organization and beyond, and hope you all will do the same. #IndigenousPeoplesDay
