Recruiting good sales people is hard ! Here are a few tips i have used in the past … I hope they help. 1. Ask all candidates to come to interview with evidence of their previous bonus / commission earnings. 2. Always do a role play showing how they would engage on the phone and how they present face to face. 3. Do a 2 stage process - using a current member of staff - ideally a high performing BDM or learner / employer engager for stage 1 qualifying interview. They will see through any BS and ask the most up to date relevant questions ( as they are doing the job right now) 4. Stage 2 should be with the sales manager and include a presentation from the candidiate showing what activities they would do in months 1-3 and 4-6 to hit various targets / kpis. Then you can refer them back to this in their monthly one to ones. 5. Always use a skilled recruiter to identify the best candidates ….ideally someone who has worked in a senior sales capacity for a profitable ITP, for at least 10 years.
