After a flood, you're left with debris, from riverbed silt to tree limbs and more from the rising tides. What do you do with it? Do you put it back in the river? Sell it to local vendors? Use it to regrade your flooded park? These options didn't work (due to stormwater permits, FEMA requirements, or the location of the floodplain), so the public works team in Parkville, MO had to get creative. Alysen Abel, P.E., MPA spoke today at the Solid Waste Summit about the timeframe of recovery and lessons learned from the 2019 Parkville floods (and sharing those lessons with other public works pros via the APWA Reporter). Alysen was one of six incredible speakers at today's Solid Waste Summit!
