We got our start in 1935 as the Kalamazoo School Employees Credit Union. Our goal: to meet the financial needs of local educators. Since then, our mission has evolved and we now provide services to all types of families and businesses across the state of Michigan. In 2016, we became Arbor Financial Credit Union. The new name was designed to change the perception that you had to be a teacher to join. With the reference to trees, we also wanted to reinforce our strong community roots, commitment to growth, and our environmentally friendly mindset. Arbor Financial has ten branches within the south west MI area. More than 40,000 people are Arbor Financial members. The credit union has over $600 million in assets. Last week, the Arbor family gathered for our annual Have Fun celebration to connect, welcome new team members, and enjoy some fun together! We had a blast with delicious Memphis Style BBQ from Scott's Pig Roast, refreshing drinks from Mixing Memories, and music bingo from Top Shelf Trivia. In addition, team members had the chance to showcase their hobbies and passions at the 2nd annual Arbor Farmers Market. From homemade soaps to beautifully hand crafted notebooks, our team set up booths to sell their creations and deepen connections with each other like never before. Having fun is a core value at Arbor, and our organization's culture truly reflects that spirit! Business Member Spotlight ✨ Meet Joy Abimbowo, the owner and founder of Seeds of Joy Learning Center, the new and highly sought after childcare and educational facility nestled in Kalamazoo, Michigan. In partnering with Arbor Financial's Commercial Lending Team, Joy is transforming a spacious location on Mosel Ave into a vibrant hub for childcare, creativity, and early childhood education for families and children. Reflecting on her journey in childcare, Joy shared "Upon coming to America, I enjoyed my work but felt something was missing. During my time in Nigeria, I discovered my true passion for childcare and education." Partnering with Arbor Financial gave Joy the opportunity to evolve from her home daycare to her dream facility. Joy emphasized, "Arbor Financial provided support and education, guiding me every step of the way. They have been incredibly patient and responsive, giving me access to resources I need to be successful." With plans to hire four full-time and two part-time employees, Joy aims to offer infant care, toddler care, pre-school programs, and before/after school care for elementary children. Her center and services also include indoor/outdoor playgrounds, meals, and flexible hours from families from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. With the Arbor Financial Small Business Loan Joy secured, she was able to renovate her space adding flooring, exits, bathrooms, and storage, while creating new rooms for children and staff. The SBA Loan also allocated funds for Joy to purchase necessary furniture and appliances. When asked about her favorite success story from Seeds of Joy Learning Center, Joy reflected warmly, saying, "In my eyes, there are so many success stories. From the children I've known and loved for years to expanding our services and facilities to meet the needs of more families in the Kalamazoo area—it's all been a dream come true for me."
