Archer Career is in #love with microlearning? Why? In his book, The Checklist Manifesto, Dr. Atul Gawande shares the history of the US Army's 1935 flight competition for airplane manufacturers. After the crash of the Boeing Model 299, the army's findings found no mechanical errors. It was found to be pilot error, stating "too much airplaine for one man to fly." Afterward, the US Army purchased a few as test planes. The test pilots then got together and created an ingeniously simple approach for flying the new plane. They created a pilot's checklist. This checklist was simple, brief, and to the point, with a step-by-step process for takeoff. From this, the pilots flew 1.8 million miles without an accident. The Army ultimately ordered 13,000 planes which were then called the B-17, and used in World War II for bombing Germany, resulting in the successful military campaign in Europe. How does this relate to today and why Archer Career loves #microlearning? For many highly skilled professionals, our work today is more complex than ever. It is challenging to deliver fully with quality, let alone excellence from memory alone. We have pressures, multiple demands, tight timelines, and more and more scarcity of resources. As Gawande states, "multiple fields...have become too much airplane for one person to fly." Like checklists, microlearning provides the minimum necessary information and steps, and makes the information dissemination very clear. To learn, particularly for career and professional skills. Work today, for many students and professionals, has a high cognitive load. We are tasking our brain with memory, attention, and thoroughness, plus the creativity and analysis required for innovation and problem-solving. Microlearning provides our brain with a cognitive pillow. #archercareer #elearning #highereducation #students #career #careerdevelopment #professionaldevelopment #LearningOnTheGo #MobileLearning #EducationTechnology #StudentSuccess

We are excited to introduce Archer Career's newest initiative, ARCHER Experts. This is an opportunity to bring in experts that have been in the trenches just like our students and early career professionals that are the learners in our courses and experiential learning. Shaping this with our team is Shayla Vradenburgh. Dr. Shayla Vradenburgh, completed her PhD in neuroscience at University of Virginia. She is a Certified Associate in Project Management and Founder of Revolting Science Resources LLC. Shayla shared this about her journey and collaboration with Archer Career: "After completing my PhD in neuroscience and discovering the field of project management, I realized how much academic researchers could benefit from project management tools to streamline their work. I'm excited to build this course with Archer because their microlearning approach allows researchers to learn valuable information at their own pace, fitting skill and knowledge building into busy academic schedules. I hope this course helps researchers better manage their projects, make meaningful progress, and achieve their goals more effectively. It's a course I wish I'd had in grad school, and Archer provides a fantastic platform to make this knowledge accessible to all academic researchers!" What is the course? Project Management for Life Scientists. We will be launching by the end of October! Archer Career's CEO, Pam Schilling, MBA, DBA, shared this: "Shayla has been incredible and has such a unique insight to bring to this valuable skill area. We are working to bring her vision to life in our award-winning microlearning approach and share with #phds, #postdocs, and #researchers. Shayla has so much knowledge and passion for this topic, it will be amazing to showcase that in the course." To learn more and bring this course to your campus or organization, reach out to us at launch@archercareer.com. #archercareer #microlearning #projectmanagement #lifescience

Founder and CEO of Archer Career | 💥 Microlearning career + professional development for early career talent.
Always exciting to share great news on Friday. Archer Career has a tradition of internships for early career professionals. Now: Archer Career EdTech Fellows! This has been a structure that I have been iterating on for a while and I would like to congratulate and welcome our first 2 fellows: Madison Mok and Alex Qian. The focus of our Fellowship is a selective, post-baccalaureate program designed for passionate, forward-thinking individuals eager to engage in the EdTech industry. Over 6-12 weeks, fellows will engage in hands-on, experiential learning, and professional development activities that prepare them for a thriving career to enter the workforce and to pursue careers in educational technology, today or in the future. This fellowship is perfect for those ready to innovate, lead, and make a meaningful impact on the future of education and career/professional development. I was delighted to get to know our first 2 fellows: Madison found Archer through our collaboration with the Gargoyle Consulting Club, who serves graduate students across University of Chicago. She will be among the first incoming class at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business for the new Master in Management program after graduating from Williams College in 2024. Madison is focused on research for a complex The National Institutes of Health grant writing course. Alex is a 2024 graduate of Northwestern University and curious about #edtech and #microlearning. Through his proactive networking, we spoke and this fellowship adds to his experience before joining Deloitte Consulting later in the fall. Alex is working on mapping the graduate student ecosystem in higher education, researching at the university level, to contribute to approaches to better engage graduate students in career and professional development programming. Team Archer sees this postbacc fellowship as a tremendous win-win. We get to focus on high impact projects with these bright and motivated early career professionals and they get hands-on mentoring, training, and experience. Excited to grow this opportunity and demonstrate our mission to provide Career and Professional Development for the universe’s best-educated talent. Farewell to our valued colleague, Jeremy Morse, Ph.D.!
Founder and CEO of Archer Career | 💥 Microlearning career + professional development for early career talent.
Today is a special day at Archer Career, in fact, it is much like Graduation celebrated by students everywhere - time on campus transforms into what adventures lie ahead. The same is true for one of Team Archer's valued colleagues, Jeremy Morse, Ph.D. as he moves forward to his next professional opportunity! 4 years ago, Jeremy began his freshman year with us. 6 weeks later, he had his first "exam" - the launch of our first software product, Archer Case Prep. We onboarded several universities. Jeremy juggled the world between development, customer engagement, and numerous other hats. As he approached his sophomore year: the pandemic. We navigated the turbulent waters, personally and professionally. And, we decided to launch our second software product, Archer Checklist (originally Archer Job Search). Many moving parts, wrestling mobile apps, web apps, content, and already signed customers. We had fun, we struggled to fly the plane while bolting in seats. But, it came together, often in the nick of time. As a junior, Jeremy took more ownership of the product, moving to lead product development. We transitioned our development in-house, managed extensive bumps in that road, and continued to expand our customer base. The junior year finals resulted in a victory in the Alumni New Venture Challenge through the Polsky Center at the University of Chicago, a 2nd place finish. That team effort is likely one of the greatest moments in my career. We worked incredibly hard to be Team Archer, to showcase our start-up, and deliver a compelling pitch. Such hard work and could not have been done without working with you Jeremy. Over 4 years, we cultivated a collaboration with the Graduate Career Consortium where Jeremy regularly took the lead. We met new career and professional development professionals. We traveled to San Francisco, Indy, and Philly. Friends, great food, and fun. In his senior year, we transitioned to a new platform and created our largest university partnership yet. We have case studies and amazing customers. And, this spring, Jeremy led the build of a custom GPT prototype - to see where we could go with #AI and Archer's unique IP + persona. After 4 years, Jeremy graduates with honors. Summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa and Archer's gratitude for a job well done. In the cultural vision I set for Archer, individuals join us and invest their human capital to advance our mission. They learn, get mentorship, grow, and leave a legacy, and are amazing talent for the organization or business they join next. That is Archer Career. Thank you Jeremy. I will miss our impromptu lunches (maybe), golf and chat, comparison of elaborate coffee, crazy holiday videos, wild swag, discussion of best dining spots for D3/D4+, and collaboration on the next steps for Archer. Congratulations. The professional growth I have witnessed during your Archer "degree" program and in our interactions is amazing. Good luck X 10. #archercareer #team #career

What if... every student applicant had a great resume? 📝✨ Can you imagine how great your job would be hiring! Imagine how much hidden talent we find. Imagine a world where every student stepping into the job market has a polished, professional resume that showcases their true potential. This vision is closer to reality than we think. By leveraging the power of microlearning, we can amplify campus resources to ensure every resume tells a compelling story. Microlearning offers bite-sized, easily digestible content that fits seamlessly into a student's busy schedule. It's an innovative way to provide targeted, impactful resume-building tips and strategies. Here’s how we can make it happen - it just means a small new design to the delivery of what already might exist on a university campus OR can be newly deployed easily and cost-effectively. 1. elearning Courses with Short, Interactive Modules: Create engaging, interactive modules that cover key resume components—structure, content, and design. Videos and activities are 2-15 minutes....most are on the short side as we know, attention is hard to get. 2. On-Demand Access: Provide students with 24/7 access to these resources, allowing them to learn and refine their resumes at their own pace. This is where mobile-first is amazing. Microlearning can be done on a phone - on the go, in a lab, in a library, on the bus, in the kitchen while cooking. Here is where we can deploy our human capital to better serve students and guide higher quality resume development, in partnership with microlearning. 1. Peer Reviews and Feedback: Establish a peer review system where students can share and receive feedback on their resumes. Use microlearning to train peer reviewers and spread resume expertise across campuses! Use the power of the crowd. 2. Amplify 1-1 coaching session impact: Students want to meet career coaches and get feedback. Turn coaching sessions into working sessions. Rewrite resume bullets, use ChatGPT/AI to align better to roles and job postings. Enrich these interactions and deepen the discussion. 3. Use Expert Webinars and Q&A Sessions: Organize sessions with career experts to offer personalized advice and answer student queries. Use expert time better, move from 101 content to 301 or 401 information, the kind that only comes from insiders. Get insights, not basics. By integrating microlearning into campus resources, we can empower students with the skills and confidence to craft standout resumes, making them ready to seize every opportunity. What if...what if every resume was worth a look? What would change in your world? What if every student, motivated to get a degree, could demonstrate skills effectively in their resume? I'm excited. Are you? #archercareer #Microlearning #ResumeBuilding #CareerDevelopment #StudentSuccess #EducationInnovation #FutureOfWork Feel free to share your thoughts on how to make resumes better!
