📢 #NEW - ADEQ’s Review of Circle K Chino Valley Fuel Release Investigation Shows No Current Threat to Drinking Water Sources in the Area. Read the news ➡️ azdeq.gov/pr/CircleK_2 Earlier this year, Circle K reported a release of 86,000 gallons of gasoline from an Underground Storage Tank (UST) at their Chino Valley location on SR 89. After reviewing all the data, ADEQ found that this amount is not supported by the evidence. We are requiring Circle K to continue investigating and correct any discrepancies. Regardless of the amount of fuel released, Arizona UST regulations require Circle K to fully investigate and clean up any contamination in the soil and groundwater. This ensures there are no current or future threats to public health or the environment. Learn about USTs ➡️ azdeq.gov/USTProgram #ADEQNews #ChinoValley #UndergroundStorageTank #AZ

Happy National Intern Day 🌟 Today, we're highlighting one of our amazing water quality interns at ADEQ! Meet Kalai Kollus, who is dedicated to protecting Arizona’s waterways. Kalai is focusing on how wildfires and fire suppression tactics affect the health of our waters. She studies the impact on bug diversity, recovery, and water quality in wetlands. In the field, she observes Arizona wildlife in remote areas, collecting bugs like dragonflies to monitor the health of our ecosystems 🐛 🦋 💡 Her advice for others interested in environmental science or water quality? “Get your feet wet! An internship is a great way to get your foot in the door with an agency. I also have enjoyed volunteering with nonprofit organizations to figure out what water-related projects are the most interesting to me! If you’re currently in school, getting a position in a research lab is an excellent experience that will translate to many different environment-related fields!” Thank you, Kalai, for your commitment to protecting our #AZ waters 🎉 #NationalInternDay #WaterQuality #EnvironmentalScience #AZWater
