From 2022 to 2023, the number of calls associated with energy drinks among children and teens under 20 years old increased by 24.2%. Children between the ages of 6 to 12 accounted for the largest increase in energy drink exposures; exposures in this age group increased by 9% over a three-year period from 2020-2023. The majority of cases were unintentional with children being unaware that were consuming an energy drink or were unaware of how much caffeine they were consuming. Prevention: ☑Keep energy drinks and other caffeine containing drinks stored away where children cannot access them. ☑Teach children to ask a trusted adult before consuming anything. ☑Teach children to read and understand product labels. #FallsPreventionAwarenessWeek Talking to your doctor is an important step in preventing a fall. Keep your doctor well-informed of all medications you are taking, ask about any side-effects you may or have experienced, falls you may have experienced, the level of physical activity that is best for you and any other concerns you may have. Communicating these things will help you and your health care provider determine a care plan that is safest for you. If you have any questions about the medications you are taking, you may also contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. #fallsprevention #medicinesafety #medications #prescriptions #aging #healthyaging #olderadults #olderadulthealth #safetytips #publichealth #poisoncontrol #poisonprevention #injuryprevention
