Today, the Massachusetts House of Representatives passed three crucial bills to protect animals across the Commonwealth! Now it’s up to the Senate to vote “yes” to move these pieces of legislation onto the Governor’s desk for signing. Contact your Senator and ask them to support these important animal protection bills before session ends on July 31! Find your Senator at https://lnkd.in/eDJhQuG   H.4911: An Act relative to animal welfare and reporting of animal cruelty, abuse, or neglect: this bill would clarify that DCF employees and contractors may report suspected animal cruelty encountered during their work, as well as remove arbitrary breed restrictions for DCF foster parents.   H.4915: An Act relative to the use of elephants, big cats, primates, giraffes, and bears in traveling exhibits and shows: this bill would prohibit the use of these exotic animals in traveling animal acts.   H.4919: An Act to increase kennel safety, aka Ollie's Law: this bill would create statewide regulations for pet daycare and boarding facilities to ensure animal health and safety, as well as protections for employees and consumers. . . . . This past week, a nine-week-old stray kitten was brought to ARL after a car mechanic discovered the little guy hiding in the engine compartment of a vehicle.   During the winter it’s common to come across an animal in an engine compartment as outdoor cats are drawn to the warmth.   However, it is very uncommon to find an animal in this precarious position during the summer months, and ARL would like to thank Dedham Animal Control and Mavis Tire and Brakes for finding and rescuing this animal who will soon begin the next chapter of his life.   Read more about Mavis’ harrowing adventure at https://arl.boston/Mavis. . . . . On Wednesday, ARL’s Field Services team received a call about a stuck Great Horned Owl in Dover, MA. Upon arrival, it appeared that the owl’s wing was caught on a fishing line that was hanging from a tree. Our Rescue Agents used a net to safely contain the owl and were able to detach the fishing line from the tree. The owl was then transported to Tufts Wildlife Clinic where he’s being medically treated before being released back into the wild.   Learn more about ARL's Field Services efforts at https://lnkd.in/ec43t4PC. . . . . Our Senior Vice President of Animal Welfare and Veterinary Services, Dr. Erin Doyle, had a ball🎾 speaking at this year's #PacVet conference in San Francisco hosted by the California Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Doyle discussed #veterinary topics ranging from strategic planning and population management to emerging Infectious diseases. . . . . .
