Leading the way to a future where people and robots work together to grow U.S. manufacturing leadership

About us

The ARM (Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing) Institute accelerates the development and adoption of innovative robotics technologies that are the foundation of every advanced manufacturing activity today and in the future. We leverage a unique, robust and diverse ecosystem of partners across industry, academia and government to: - make robotics, autonomy and artificial intelligence more accessible to U.S. manufacturers large and small - train and empower the manufacturing workforce - strengthen our economy and global competitiveness - elevate our national security and resilience The ARM Institute operates as part of the Manufacturing USA network, and is funded by the U.S. Department of Defense. By creating a collaborative ecosystem of like-minded organizations, the ARM Institute is speeding the movement of industrial robots into commercial use, while preparing a labor force to operate and manage these technologies. ARM is an integral part of Pittsburgh’s strategy to define the future of the global manufacturing economy and will be the lead tenant at Hazelwood Green, a unique hub that will revolutionize U.S. manufacturing. ARM Member and partner Catalyst Connection (the Pittsburgh region's MEP) is seeking input on training programs that they are developing for the SW Pennsylvania region! Catalyst Connection is doing this through two targeted surveys: ➡ Employment Demand Study: This survey is designed for HR professionals and aims to capture a comprehensive picture of the future employment needs within the manufacturing sector. Your responses will help Catalyst understand the evolving demands for various roles and positions, ensuring that they can better support workforce planning and development. You may complete the survey here: https://lnkd.in/e44ChqYn ➡ Training Needs Assessment: Catalyst invites supervisors, plant managers, and industry leaders to participate in this survey to pinpoint the exact skills required across different employment levels. By identifying these needs, they can tailor their training programs and funding initiatives to provide the most relevant and impactful support. You may complete this survey here: https://lnkd.in/eVSGfrDS These surveys should take around 10 minutes to complete and will be used to inform offerings that will also leverage Catalyst Connection's Pittsburgh facility at Mill 19, in which the ARM Institute is also located.

This week, the ARM Institute's Robotics Manufacturing Hub team welcomed Pittsburgh manufacturer Robinson Fans to our facility to explore solutions for robotic multi-pass welding for structural components and to help their team get hands-on with robotics! By the end of the no-cost meeting, Robinson Fans left with: ➡ A sample robotically welded part, programmed by Robinson Fans staff as taught by the ARM Institute team, to take home for x-ray inspection so that the team can continue to perfect the process before Robinson Fans commits to purchasing a robot arm ➡ Hands-on familiarization with industrial robots, collaborative robots, and Motosim simulation software ➡ An understanding of the differences between industrial and collaborative robots and how those differences can play to their strengths and weaknesses ➡ Knowledge of the process it takes to apply robotic automation to their welded parts ➡ Knowledge of the market landscape for robotic welding and capabilities This could be you! The Robotics Manufacturing Hub is a free service for small and medium sized manufacturers in the Pittsburgh region and is funded by through the Southwestern Pennsylvania New Economy Collaborative, the region's Build Back Better Regional Challenge grant.
