CFP - Papers are invited for a session dedicated to Early Modern Women Artists at the MIDWEST ART HISTORY SOCIETY INC conf in Denver, CO from April 3-5, 2025. Reconstructing early modern women artists continues to be a fruitful area of investigation for scholars, as evidenced by the Illuminating Women Artists book series (Lund Humphries & Getty Publications) and the exhibition Making Her Mark: A History of Women Artists in Europe, 1400-1800 (Baltimore Museum of Art and the Art Gallery of Ontario). This session aims to continue this important work while also questioning the broader implications of the “discovery” of women makers for our wider understanding of historical constructions of gender, creativity, and the concept of “art.” Proposals for 20-minute papers should be sent to Jessica Weiss (jweiss16@msudenver.edu) and should include the author’s name, affiliation (if applicable, independent scholars welcome!), contact information, the paper title, and a brief abstract. Deadline: November 22 Full details here: https://lnkd.in/grf7SK69 (from this page, click the link for the Fall 2024 MAHS eNewsletter to find cfp)

Quoting IG post by Ann Shafer of the Platemark podcast: "In s3e67 of Platemark, I talk with Amy Namowitz Worthen, a distinguished engraver and curator, about her lifelong journey in printmaking. Influenced early by her artist mother, she pursued art education at Smith College and the University of Iowa, honing her artistic skills under Leonard Baskin and Mauricio Lasansky. In addition to making, Amy was also the curator at the Des Moines Art Center for many years, developing its works on paper collection and establishing its Print Club. Her work bridges historical and contemporary practices, with publications and collaborations spanning the globe. Personal experiences, including significant tragedies, deeply influence her art, shaping unique series and projects. Amy splits her time between Des Moines and Venice and maintains deep connections with both places. You can listen to Platemark or watch a video version. Links to all the possibilities are on the episode page at www.platemarkpodcast.com." https://lnkd.in/eJTMm7GC
