Khazanah Megatrends Forum 2024: The Pursuit of Potatoes 🥔 Just read the fascinating concept paper for the recent Khazanah Megatrends Forum 2024! Here are the key takeaways: 🌍 The World as a Complex System: Small changes can have massive, unpredictable impacts due to our interconnected world. 🌊 Edge of Chaos: We're moving closer to systemic instability with increasing frequency of Black Swan events and looming Grey Rhinos like climate change. ⚡ Energy Transition Imperative: The falling energy ceiling (decreasing EROI) necessitates a shift to new energy sources for continued progress. 🧠 From Probable to Possible: We need to explore more 'possible' solutions, even if initially improbable, to address complex global challenges. 🔬 Systemic Approaches: Empirical, biology-driven approaches may be more effective than traditional analytical economic theories for tackling systemic issues. 🚀 Innovation Incubation: Creating spaces for diverse ideas to collide and incubate is crucial for breakthrough solutions. 🇲🇾 Malaysia's GEAR-uP: The country is investing RM120bn in domestic direct investments over 5 years to foster high-growth, high-value industries. The theme "Pursuit of Potatoes – Paving Paths from the Probable to the Possible" emphasizes the need for collaborative, imaginative solutions to complex challenges. Impact on Venture Capital: 🔮 Expanded Horizons: VCs may need to look beyond 'probable' investments to those in the realm of 'possible', potentially leading to more moonshot investments. 🌱 Early-Stage Focus: Increased emphasis on funding early-stage ideas that could have outsized impacts in complex systems. 🤝 Collaboration Emphasis: VCs might prioritize startups that foster collaborative environments or leverage collective intelligence. 🔋 Energy Transition Opportunities: More investment focus on innovative energy solutions to address the falling energy ceiling. 🧪 Interdisciplinary Approach: VCs may need to develop expertise across multiple disciplines to evaluate complex, systemic solutions. 🔄 Adaptive Strategies: Investment strategies may need to become more flexible and adaptive to navigate an increasingly unpredictable world. 🌐 Global Perspective: Increased attention to how local innovations might have far-reaching global impacts. How do you see these trends shaping the future of innovation and investment?

🔥 Fintech Forging the Future 🔥 Earlier this week, the Securities Commission Malaysia held their flagship SCxSC Fintech Summit 2024 over two days that saw fintech experts gather to share their great insights and exhibit innovative ideas and solutions. This year, the themes were AI and blockchain, highlighting their role as building blocks for an ever-evolving financial landscape, and the SC also showcased their FIKRA ACE Startups making use of these technologies in an exciting demo day. It was also our first time exhibiting, and thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth; our team had a great time sharing about our work and portfolio with you. As their Community Partner for this year's SCxSC, we are also truly grateful to the SC for the opportunity to organise an industry networking event on 2 October which we coined "Future Pulse: Fintech Edition", with the goal of facilitating more relationships within the fintech ecosystem to achieve our nation's agendas in spurring technological advancements and serving the underserved. In a two-minute elevator pitch session, we also put the spotlight (and the pressure) on companies developing interesting AI-powered solutions. Our networking event would not have happened without the support of our amazing partners: CGC Digital, pitchIN, and CapBay. We also thank our participating speakers and panellists throughout the evening, Dr. Wong Huei Ching (Securities Commission Malaysia), Yushida .Husin (CGC Digital), Sam Shafie (pitchIN), Darrel Ang (CapBay), Xing Xian Ang (CapBay), and Sharian Raj (Senang.io). A shoutout to Aye | Your Partner in Retail AI, BiiB, Finology, Frac, Pand.ai, NTime, and Tupai.ai for showcasing your innovative solutions! 🚀🔍 Lastly, we sincerely thank all our attendees who made this event a success. We hope you had a great time connecting and exchanging ideas. 🌟 #Networking #Fintech #SCxSCFintechSummit #Innovation #Startups #Malaysia #FintechEcosystem #Partnerships
