We’ve heard so many stories of artists who have lost everything due to Helene–decades of work, important equipment, even their homes and workspaces. We’ve been brainstorming meaningful ways to help in the recovery stage and, today, are announcing a new opportunity.
🌟 For western North Carolina working artists affected by Hurricane Helene, Sawtooth will provide open studio time for you free of charge.
➡ Artists: please fill out the brief interest survey on our website at

Our Studio Directors will work to find a suitable timeframe between our scheduled classes and will coordinate directly with you.
We have 16 well-equipped, professional studios in the heart of downtown Winston-Salem, and we’re happy to open them up for folks who need these resources while they rebuild and recover their own. Our ceramics studio will also offer free electric and gas firings to affected, full-time studio artists.
🗣 Everyone, please share widely and help us spread the word!
Studios with available open hours include ceramics, glass (fusing and slumping, lampworking, mosaics, and stained glass), metals + lapidary, photography (B+W Darkroom), printmaking, textiles (dyeing, sewing, and weaving), and woodworking (woodcarving, woodturning, and woodworking). Scholarships for Youth programs are also available.
For almost 80 years, Sawtooth has been a creative hub for the Triad, connecting and creating community through the act of making. We’re happy to help in any way we can, and this won’t be the last endeavor––we welcome feedback and ideas from affected artists, too!
