Tao LaBossiere dedicated his life to expanding Hartford's arts scene. He lived and worked at Hartford ArtSpace, where he was an award-winning muralist, sculptor, and illustrator who celebrated community through his work. Tao co-directed the Hartford ArtSpace Gallery and founded Art of Tao LaBossiere LLC with his wife, Amy. He also spent a decade as the lead creative partner at Still Waters Retreat Center. Tao's art invited the public to connect with nature and reflect on their experiences. His murals, like "Bee the Change" and "Oneness of Being of Still Waters" at 289 Asylum St., symbolize Hartford’s evolving art culture and personal growth. A recent project, the "Oak Leaf Throne," transformed a 180-year-old white oak into a 9.5-foot-tall sculpture, inviting park visitors to slow down and appreciate their surroundings. Tao was deeply committed to the arts community and was beloved by many. He donated art to fundraisers, mentored other artists, and dreamt in 1997 a Hartford filled with public art, especially large-scale murals which he helped manifest. His work can be seen at locations like The 224 EcoSpace, Hartford Public Library, Vernon Diner, and Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ. Our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Amy, and to everyone who was touched by his friendship, talent, and humanity.

While the official unveiling of our White Oak Leaf Throne was postponed (new date to be announced), we are thrilled for this coverage on the Hartford Chamber of Commerce - CT blog. Check out the story here: https://lnkd.in/ed7X_6iH

Vernon Diner owners selected us to create this mural for their new covered convertible patio. This mural is our first fully collaborative creation as a husband and wife team. Amy LaBossiere created the concept and initial design, Tao LaBossiere developed it further, and we both painted side by side. Tao was painting lead and Amy as painting assistant. When people saw us painting and said, "Wow! It actually makes my mouth water," we knew we had accomplished our goal.

Tao LaBossiere was recently on The Anxious Voyage podcast with 🟦 Mark O'Brien. It's a fantastic episode about creativity, inspiration, Tao's art, and life as an artist. Mark is an engaging host and interviewer. Give it a listen here: https://lnkd.in/ec_Y5_KF

Please support our new project, Tree As Art. We are partnering with Sustainable CT to bring this beautiful piece of art to Bushnell Park. Local artist Art of Tao LaBossiere and his team are so excited about extending the life of this tree trunk by creating the White Oak Leaf Throne. No donation is too small. Please help us get 70 donations and raise $7000 that will be matched by Sustainable CT. bit.ly/TreeAsArt This project is supported in part by the Greater Hartford Arts Council. Thank you!
