As NH Gives begins, we're reminded of the power of community support. At Ascentria, we're dedicated to using NH Gives donations to enhance the lives of our program participants, including providing groceries for our In-Home Care clients. With food insecurity affecting one in ten individuals in the Granite State and rising grocery costs, Tabitha, one of Ascentria's Regional Care Providers, regularly sees the effects that food instability can have on New Hampshire residents. Your support ensures access to nutritious food, fostering stability in their lives. Every little contribution can make a significant impact on our New England community! Ascentria Foster Care programs in Massachusetts have so much to celebrate this month with at least 14 youth graduating high school, 2 youth graduating continuing education programs, and 1 youth graduating community college! This is a tremendous accomplishment for each of our youth who have overcome any challenges in their path to reach this milestone. One of these graduates is Mohammad, a youth in our Unaccompanied Refugee Minors Program. Mohammad came to the United States originally from Afghanistan in 2021. Mohammad worked hard to master the English language and complete all of his high school courses. He is now excited to be attending college in the fall to begin pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science! And just last week, Mohammad traveled to California where he is completing a three-week aviation training. Please join us in congratulating Mohammad and the entire Class of 2024! #AscentriaFosterCare #FosterCareFriday

"A few things in the world can reliably bring different people together: Soccer, food, a nice sunset. Shakira. When the Colombian singer’s 2010 World Cup anthem, “Waka Waka,” came on, the jumble of kids swaying nervously on the gym floor threw up their hands and started to dance. Five Afghan girls in matching pink rompers led the charge. This — a song, a messy dance — was how Concord’s new Americans celebrated World Refugee Day at Keach Park Community Center Thursday. Ascentria Care Alliance, a nonprofit focused on helping refugees settle in New England, hosted the event, welcoming more than 100 now-locals who came to New Hampshire from countries like Syria, Afghanistan, Uganda and Rwanda. Many of the children at the event were part of Project S.T.O.R.Y., a volunteer-powered organization that hosts programming for kids, about half of whom are refugees or children of refugees." Today, we celebrate the incredible resilience, strength, and hope of refugees and asylum seekers around the world. Every refugee story is a testament to the unbreakable human spirit. We have had the privilege of working with remarkable individuals and families who have overcome adversity and rebuilt their lives with determination, courage, and resilience. They have enriched our communities with their talents, cultures, and contributions, reminding us of the immeasurable value of diversity. We celebrate the communities that have welcomed new arrivals with open arms, recognizing that inclusion and acceptance are essential in creating a harmonious society. It is through unity and collaboration that we can break down barriers, challenge misconceptions, and foster an environment where every person feels valued and respected. Today, let us reaffirm our commitment to advocating for the rights of new arrivals, ensuring their access to education, healthcare, and livelihood opportunities. Let us stand together in creating a world where the dreams and aspirations of immigrants can flourish, and where compassion knows no borders. Please join us in welcoming Margaret Weis to Ascentria’s Services for New Americans program! Margaret joins us as a Housing Strategy Specialist, a new position within Ascentria that will help families and individuals experiencing homelessness find stable and sustainable housing. This position is of vital importance as New England faces a shortage of available and affordable homes or apartments.   “We’re excited to see Margaret, in her new role, help shift systems and bridge silos to quickly transition families experiencing homelessness out of emergency shelters and into stable housing. Stability and a safe place to call home are the building blocks to helping families in transition thrive and achieve financial independence,” says Christine Tappan, chief of community based services and advancement. Margaret Weis, MPA, MS has over fifteen years of experience in the human service field working alongside vulnerable populations. A natural and trained systems thinker, Margaret excels at mapping and understanding systems, their inherent challenges, and opportunities for resolutions.   “Our mission has always been to provide holistic, wraparound services that support individuals and families, including our own employees, in every aspect of their lives. The addition of a Housing Specialist is a natural extension of this mission,” says Ascentria’s CEO and President Angela Bovill.   “By integrating this specialist into our team, we are not only responding to an urgent need but also strengthening our commitment to community care. We believe that stable housing is foundational to achieving overall well-being, enabling our clients to focus on other critical areas such as employment, education, and health. This initiative is a testament to our dedication to finding innovative solutions and our unwavering commitment to the communities we serve.” Before joining the Ascentria team, Margaret worked as an Executive Director at religiously affiliated non-profits, a trauma hospital chaplain, and a counselor for veterans impacted by PTSD and homelessness. Margaret is a graduate, with honors, of the Cornell University: Cornell Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy (2024) with a Master of Public Administration focusing on Human Rights and Social Justice. She holds a certificate from Cornell University in Systems Thinking, Mapping, and Leadership, a Master of Divinity degree from Andover Newton Theological School (2012), and a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling from UMASS Boston (2008). The Housing Strategy Specialist position with Ascentria weaves together her diverse experiences and talents in a new and exciting way. Welcome to the team, Margaret!
