We are still overflowing with gratitude for how successful our recent conference, SOLAR 2024, was back in May! Given that it’s a presidential election year, SOLAR 2024 emphasized community and network-building opportunities focusing on advocacy and education needed to expand upon best practices and new ideas for implementing a quicker energy transition. Leaders converged from government, industry, trade, academia, and the community to exchange valuable ideas. Check out our SOLAR 2024 highlights: https://lnkd.in/gZ4sKqx5 Interested in presenting at SOLAR 2025 in Boulder, Colorado, on August 4-6? 🌞 Highlights from the USF Solar Fair! 🌞 The Solar Energy Society at the University of South Florida is thrilled to share the success of this year’s USF Solar Fair! It was an exciting day filled with learning, collaboration, and community engagement. Our event brought together students, faculty, and sustainability enthusiasts to explore the latest in solar energy solutions. With special thanks to our exhibitors, Lunex Power Inc. and Powersol USA , attendees had the chance to interact with experts, explore cutting-edge solar technologies, and gain insights into how clean energy is shaping the future. From live demos to hands-on discussions, the fair encouraged all of us to think more deeply about sustainable energy and the positive impact it can bring to our communities. A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Yogi Goswami for his unwavering support, as well as to our organizing team: Yasser Mirza Baig, Fernanda Silva Pimenta, Neeharicka Measala, Otavio Vieira Vidigal and Owaizuddin Mohammed. Your hard work made this event an incredible success, and we’re excited to continue inspiring a brighter, cleaner future together! 🌱☀️ #USFSolarFair #SolarEnergy #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #USF

Thanks Jeff Spies for sharing this! A testament to how far solar module manufacturing has come and how much the price has come down. Also, I have so much respect for all the folks that had vision and passion for solar early on. This is part of why I love American Solar Energy Society so much, too, because I always feel like they do a great job of bringing people together who understand the early days of solar, as well as where we are headed!
David Katz at the original location of Alternative Energy Engineering founded in Briceland, CA in the late 70s. Shortly after starting his business, David began selling PV modules to homeowners in Southern Humboldt County. He expanded his reach to national mail order sales in the early 80's. This photo was from sometime in 1980/81 when PV modules were $13/watt. This equates to more than $50/watt in today’s dollars. Now, you can buy modules for less than 1% of that price. The module on the right is a Solarex module. They appear to have used the same herringbone circuit bus pattern developed by Solar Power Corp (Div of Exxon) in the mid 70s. The module in the center is a Arco 16-2300, and the module on the left is a Photowatt (made in France).
