About us
The Asheville Recovery Center was founded by members of the recovery community with years of experience working in the addiction treatment field. Through their experience working in behavioral health and substance abuse treatment, they discovered that something was missing from the standard model of addiction treatment commonly found in most facilities. What addiction treatment is missing in the modern world is the intimate, compassionate nature that makes recovery possible. Rather than taking the time to focus on individual patients’ backgrounds, needs, and goals, facilities were letting clients slip through the cracks. The Asheville Recovery Center was founded to address the need for effective treatment in an intimate, supportive environment, and to bridge the gap between evidence-based therapeutic practice and spiritual and emotional care. The result is a program that aims to care for the whole individual: mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually in a real-world environment that also provides accountability, safety, a good dose of tough love, and a tight-knit, family setting. The essential elements of an effective treatment center are highly qualified, trained clinicians with experience in addressing the disease of addiction, and an approach of compassion and care for each individual who walks through the doors of the facility. Traditional therapy must be combined with individual care and love in order to truly reach the client. At Asheville Recovery Center, our aim is to provide treatment that’s backed up by evidence and results without ever sacrificing the intimacy necessary to truly connect with our clients.

To say this last month has been a little bumpy is definitely an understatement. In situations such as this, it takes a community and not just a select few. We truly believe that all our staff, top to bottom, caring more about our clients or simply this program, that’s what kept us alive. We reduced our census in order to offer housing for staff to use whose current homes were not habitable. Throughout this process our clients witnessed the love and passion every employee at ARC has. By surviving the storm together and coming out stronger than ever, we made it to where we are today. Still with a long road ahead…. We never claimed to be the biggest program in NC. However, we will proudly say we know we are more compassionate than most can imagine, and will never give up on those in our care. #asheville #strong #helene #hurricane #community

We did our best to run the program as close to normal through this storm. ARC is grateful for all the help and love from the community which was abundant and is still ongoing. Due to even alumni making sure we were fed and hydrated, Catie’s team made sure to not forget Jersey Thursday! Things will obviously look different here in the months to come for everyone. One thing ARC can assure the community however is we have not changed. If anything our goal of meaningful care has only deepened. Today we officially re-open! Thank you again to each and every one of you who helped, it is still truly beautiful. #helene #hurricane #asheville #recovery

Within five seconds of entering the front door, I knew I didn’t need to waste my gas or time. In our industry, we all recognize that feeling when we walk into a program and see a team that shares our values of authenticity and lightheartedness. The way the staff at South Carolina Addiction Treatment supports individuals is genuinely inspiring. Asheville Recovery Center appreciates the partnership and the genuine care you show for everyone who walks through your doors. Asheville Recovery Center

One of the most valuable things a primary therapist can offer a patient is their own consistency and dedication. This week, we celebrated Kristen's four-year anniversary with ARC, and we couldn’t be more grateful. From the moment she joined us, Kristen has played a crucial role in shaping ARC into what it is today. Her unwavering commitment and the positive presence she brings to the program have been instrumental in our success over these past few years. Thank you, Kristen, for everything you do. #addiction #help #therapy

ARC recognizes the importance of daily connections and progress with a primary therapist during each client's stay. Janan’s office exemplifies the safe and supportive space where our clients engage in their daily primary group. Each morning, she has the opportunity to meet with her caseload, ensuring that each client receives the necessary attention and support every day. #recovery #addiction #help #therapy

Hollan Steen joined Asheville Recovery Center from Apex, NC in the fall of 2018. After completing his program, he moved into a local sober living environment and eventually took on the role of manager while preparing to start a position at ARC. He began his journey at the center as a second shift Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) and has since gained extensive knowledge and experience in various roles within the organization. Today, he serves as the Director of Admissions. Reflecting on his experience, Hollan shares, “Even as a patient during ARC’s early years, I recognized that while the program wasn’t perfect, it was perfect for me. I had encountered other programs in North Carolina, but none approached, presented, or treated individuals with the same level of authenticity as ARC. I didn’t fully understand what I was seeking at the time, but I was immensely relieved to find that what I needed was simply honest and compassionate support.”
