Rose Rejouis journey is one of resilience and transformation. Forced to flee Haiti with her young daughter due to escalating gang violence, Rose arrived in the U.S. facing immense challenges. With no place to stay and limited resources, she struggled to rebuild her life from scratch. Determined to create a better future for herself and her child, Rose discovered Asian Women for Health's Community Health Worker (CHW) Training. Inspired by the support she had received from health workers during her toughest times, she committed herself to the program with unwavering focus. Today, Rose is not only a CHW graduate but also an active force for good in her community, working as a care coordinator and helping others navigate their struggles and access vital resources. Her story is a testament to the power of perseverance and the impact of giving back! If you or someone you know is interested in a career in Public Health, our upcoming Spring Cohort starts in 5 days- apply now or learn more about the program here: awfh.org/CHWSpringCohort

Yesterday’s, Addressing Disparities in Asian Populations through Translational Research (ADAPT) Community Meeting sparked critical discussions on health equity and cultural competence in healthcare. Dr. Tsung Mou, Dr. Soohyun Park, and our Executive Director Colleen M. Nguyen, MPH, shared powerful insights on Asian American patient experiences in local health systems. One standout moment? Colleen posed this thought-provoking question: “How can researchers and community organizations collaborate more effectively to ensure health research is both meaningful and actionable for the communities we serve?” This question drives home part of our mission: bridging research and real-world impact. Let’s keep the conversation going! How do YOU think we can make health research more community-driven? Drop your thoughts below! #ADAPT #AsianAmericanHealth #HealthEquity #CommunityResearch #AWFH

It was incredible to be at the 29th annual Immigrants Day at the State House hosted by Massachusetts Immigrant & Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA)! 🏛️🌟 We joined hundreds of supporters gathered to celebrate and stand in solidarity with our vibrant immigrant communities. Did you know? Massachusetts is home to approximately 1.26 million immigrants, making up about 18.1% of our state's population. That's nearly 1 in 5 residents! Our diversity is our strength, and events like these remind us of the incredible contributions immigrants make to our communities every day. Colleen M. The Asian Women for Health Board recently celebrated the contributions of our departing Executive Director, Naheed E., with a special dinner at Ariana Restaurant. As a token of appreciation, Naheed was presented with an engraved monkeypod wood bowl, a culturally significant gift symbolizing gratitude, recognition, and protection. During her two-year tenure, Naheed significantly expanded AWFH's impact, broadening its pan-Asian reach and enhancing programs such as the Community Health Worker Training Program. Her leadership has transformed AWFH into a more inclusive meeting place for Asian women and their allies, leaving a lasting legacy for the organization. AWFH has now transitioned to new leadership under Colleen M. Nguyen, MPH, who took over as Executive Director. The organization looks forward to continuing its mission to advance health equity for Asian women and underrepresented communities.
