  • October is National Dessert Month and AWG is highlighting some of our members with bakeries that excel in desserts. One such retailer is Harps Food Stores. Harps has many amazing items in their bakery, but they have built a reputation for providing the very best cakes. They have had several decorators compete in the International Dairy Deli Bakery Association (IDDBA) Cake Decorating Competition. They also have a team dedicated to teaching their cake decorators. Their Cake Techs travel to all Harps locations teaching decorators new techniques. They recently hosted seminars where they brought their cake decorators together for a day of learning. Harps customers praise the quality of their cakes and the artistic ability of their decorators.

Recuerda. Recuerda a quienes nos precedieron. Es lo que nos define.

  • What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you? Hispanic Heritage month gives me an extra opportunity to celebrate where my family is from and the impact they have made on my life and the communities they are a part of. What have been some of the most important lessons you’ve learned throughout your career? The most important thing I have learned throughout my career is to hear people out. You never know what a new perspective will bring. People are all brought up in different cultures, situations and environments and sometimes it is that new perspective that will give you your next great idea or get you through a problem you have been facing. What is a recipe, food or snack that reminds you the most of your home, culture or heritage? Papas a la huancaina, ensalada rusa and causa are my favorite Peruvian foods. Some of my favorite childhood memories are having dinners at my abuela's house with all my family around. I loved when I was old enough she would have me help prepare dinners. The pride she took in taking care of the family is something I will never forget. A pride that to this day is instilled in me. What can you and your fellow teammates do to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month? Remember. Remember those who came before us. It's what makes us who we are.
