Kudos to Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future (SAHF) for publishing this carbon zero building retrofit case study. It was a great project to be part of. Click here to read more: https://lnkd.in/gY9pgS-2
Leading Multi-family Real Estate Owners to Profitable Carbon Free Buildings I Co-Founder of Carbon Zero Buildings
Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future (SAHF) has just published a case study on Carbon Zero Buildings retrofit of Foothill Farms, a 138-unit BRIDGE Housing community. This project, made possible by Natalia Williams and the BRIDGE Housing Corporation team, replaced aging systems with heat pumps, LED lighting, EV chargers, and more, cutting gas use by 93% while keeping costs low for residents and increasing property net operating income (NOI). A huge thanks to Association for Energy Affordability, Inc., SMUD, California Department of Community Services and Development (who funds LIWP), and TECH Clean California for their key incentive support. Shoutout to Lauren Westmoreland and SAHF team for creating the case study and Sebastian Cohn of AEA and Caitlin Rood and Bright Power, Inc. for their partnership on this project. This case study highlights how electrification is both achievable and financially smart—let’s keep the momentum going! We collaborated with RMI, Integral Group, David Baker Architects, and the University of California, Davis to bring you the Design and Installation Guide for Multifamily Buildings. Download your copy today! https://lnkd.in/g8yRp8Xz
Buildings account for nearly 25% of GHG emissions in California and are key to achieving the state’s targets for reducing carbon emissions. At the same time, low-income residents face a disproportionate energy burden, with energy spending up to 3x higher than non-low-income households. In collaboration with the Association for Energy Affordability, Inc., Integral Group, David Baker Architects, and University of California, Davis, RMI developed a design and installation guide for existing multifamily buildings in California, drawing on insights from pilot projects funded by the California Energy Commission’s EPIC program. The guide includes detailed design and installation guidelines that integrate innovative building technologies, reduce energy demand, and effectively pair with renewable energy generation. The guide also offers financing strategies, highlighting incentives from the federal Inflation Reduction Act and solutions for gap financing in affordable housing projects. Download the installation guide to learn more👇 https://lnkd.in/g8yRp8Xz

Congratulations ESKW/Architects! We're very proud to be part of such an important project.
Landy Court received an Honor Award from AIA Westchester + Hudson Valley! 🏆 Landy Court enhances Downtown Yonkers by providing vital affordable and supportive housing options in a welcoming, community-focused environment. The project’s 80 units meet the needs of low-income households and individuals with mental health needs, offering stability and access to on-site social services. The thoughtful design respects the neighborhood’s industrial history, using red brick details to blend into the context while adding modern touches. Communal amenities like the rooftop garden, community room, and light-filled lobby foster connection among residents. The project’s integration into the hillside, along with challenges like retaining wall rehabilitation and utility relocations, demonstrates a commitment to thoughtful urban development. Congratulations to the entire team! . We're very excited to be part of this team!
More gas appliance retirement content! Yesterday we swapped 32 stoves in one go, taking a whole Bay Area apartment building off of gas in a few hours. Big ups to the Copper team and our local friends for delivering the magic of battery-powered induction. Lots more of this to come!
