This August, in honor of National Psoriasis Awareness Month, we emphasize the importance of understanding psoriasis (PSO), a condition that affects over 125 million people worldwide. This chronic autoimmune disease significantly impacts both skin and joints, putting patients at risk of poorer outcomes if not identified and treated. In cases of psoriatic arthritis (PSA), the joints can become swollen, stiff, and painful, potentially leading to long-term joint damage if untreated. Early diagnosis and comprehensive treatment are essential in managing PSO and improving the quality of life for those affected. Unfortunately, psoriasis is often misunderstood and stigmatized, which can delay diagnosis and treatment. Approximately 30% of PSO patients end up with PSA. Additionally, both PSO and PSA can lead to severe health complications, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and depression. AWIR is dedicated to advocating for better cross-collaboration between specialties like dermatology and rheumatology to support those living with psoriasis and other autoimmune diseases. Join us in our mission to support research and advocate for better healthcare and access to care. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of those affected by autoimmune diseases. https://buff.ly/3J4AHbW
