Higher education is at a fork in the road. Too often, we treat learning as something that ends at 22—ignoring the fact that the future demands continuous adaptability. At this year’s ASU+GSV Summit, I’ll be in conversation during two panels about the urgent redesign higher education needs to serve ALL learners. From employer-powered pathways to AI-driven upskilling, we’ll explore the future of learning that is flexible, workforce-aligned and inclusive. I share more in my latest blog, below, including why this mission is deeply personal. If you’re heading to ASU+GSV, let’s connect!

Each year, millions of Americans participate in activities aimed at improving their communities. Between September 2022-2023, approximately 75.8 million Americans engaged in formal volunteering through organizations, while about 54.2% of the population participated through informal acts of kindness, such as running errands or offering help. Many fields emphasize social responsibility and community involvement, making civic-minded individuals ideal candidates. Careers in research, public administration, political science, social work, nonprofit management, law enforcement and education often involve civic participation. Whether pursuing a degree in public service or simply wanting to learn more about your community, civic involvement provides a strong foundation for success. Today is the day — #SunDevilGiving Day has arrived! Why do I give? As I’ve shared before, my motivation for giving is my sister, Cortney, who passed away unexpectedly 10 years ago. She was an incredible person who loved and cared for animals and believed in kindness and inclusion. In 2016, when the ASU Foundation for a New American University had a matching program for new scholarships, we created a memorial scholarship in her name (https://lnkd.in/gACgMtaJ). Cortney was not connected to Arizona State University via enrollment or graduation, but ASU’s commitment to inclusion was in the same spirit as Cortney’s beliefs. I am proud to say that we’ve been able to expand that initial impact with the Cortney Rice Student Impact Fund (https://lnkd.in/gw7RvJGp). The impact fund and her scholarship support student attendance and thriving in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts at Arizona State University's pre-vet programs. The impact fund allows the faculty to support students based on their needs, and the scholarship (along with other aid) helps students focus on their degree and not worry about the cost of their education. Whatever your reason, #SunDevilGiving Day is a fantastic opportunity to impact students’ lives. Becoming part of the edtech community has been such a rewarding experience - I’m in awe of the transformation that’s currently taking place and the opportunities that lie ahead. I take every opportunity to immerse myself in edtech and talk with / learn from thought leaders who are just as passionate as I am about transforming this space. And next month, at this year’s ASU+GSV Summit, I’m looking forward to doing just that -- immersing myself in conversations about the future of technology (especially AI) and hearing about the tremendous opportunities we have to continue personalizing learning. This year at ASU+GSV is also the first time I’ll be speaking on a panel discussing the "system updates" necessary for universities to become agile, future-ready institutions. I’m thrilled to share the stage with peers like Stephanie Khurana of Axim Collaborative, Mike Tarrant of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Kees Bol of 2U and Kim Merritt of ASU Learning Enterprise where we’ll talk about potential for AI to elevate education, the areas it may destabilize, and the human capacities more important than ever in a rapidly changing world. If you’re attending ASU+GSV this year, drop me a message or comment below. I’d love to connect, and I’ll hope you’ll stop by my session “Education Operating System: Updates Ready to be Installed” on April 8 at 11am PT. #ASUGSVSummit #AI #EdTech

Last week I attended and presented at the 2025 ASU FOLC Fest (Future of Learning Community Fest. I met people from other departments working on similar projects, all dreaming bigger dreams than themselves, and had fun brainstorming on potential collaborations. I enjoyed listening to Dr. Michael Sorrell from Paul Quinn College share his experiences and wisdom. Here are a few points that resonated with me: 🔹 "Lead with love" 🔹 "Lead from where you are" 🔹 "You should not lead the people you do not love" 🔹 "Love something greater than yourself" My goal this year is to lean in more, listen, be curious and help where I'm able. We all can leave places better than we found them, be it a physical space or emotionally through our interactions with others. 🚀 Also huge shout out to my teammates at ASU Learning Enterprise, Alejandra Dashe, PhD and Yash Pachchigar. We had a demo of our #AI Transcription Tool and presented a poster for our #principledinnovation grant. Stay tuned for updates our tools continued development! Also, love the group picture of some of the ULC team! #ArizonaStateUniversity #ASU #FOLC #FutureOfLearning #Innovation #Education #Networking
