Is a hug sexual harassment? While a hug can be a way to demonstrate care for someone, not all hugs are experienced the same, especially in the workplace. Generally, a single, unwanted hug would not be considered sexual harassment. For a hug in the workplace to be illegal, it needs to be unwelcome and frequent or severe. If a hug meets those criteria, a person could be fired for it.
