Employee Spotlight: Meet Jovaniel Lopez! Jovaniel celebrated his first anniversary at ATAS this month! He works in production and primarily with Mike Rex on the Dutch Seam machine. “(He’s on Dutch Seam) for the most part, and then anywhere I’m needed, I’ll get pulled,” he said with a smile. One thing you can count on in the shop is music playing, Rex usually has his radio on while working. The freedom in the shop is something Jovaniel enjoys too. “I listen to podcasts while I do my thing. You move around, you’re not stuck in one place, it’s kinda nice,” he said. Jovaniel explains the complexity of ATAS production in simple terms. “I turn metal sheets into different shapes of metal sheets for them to fit on housing, on roofing, and anything they use it for. At it’s basic, that’s what I do,” he laughed. Realistically, there are variable aspects to consider, machine calibration, coil sizes, order size, perforation or not depending on the type of panel, and more specificity on an order-to-order basis. “I just kind of set up tooling in order to achieve the look of the panel we need,” he added. Since Jovaniel primarily works with Dutch Seam, it’s safe to assume it’s his favorite panel. “It’s actually like the striation Dutch back there we have. That one’s really nice, especially in like a dark color,” he said. Out of the 40+ color choices at ATAS, Jovaniel has two favorites, one classic and one vibrant. “Color-wise, I like the Matte Black. I also like Boysenberry but like, that’s just a fun color,” he shared. Although Jovaniel’s only been at ATAS for a year, he got to experience the Ground Breaking Ceremony at the Grant Way facility which is his favorite ATAS memory so far. “Many places don’t do that. I feel like you don’t see many places shut down and have everybody come out and be part of it. So that was cool to do and see,” said Jovaniel. At home, what brings him joy is the small things, especially time with his family. He loves routine, especially since it brings him quality time with his wife and son. After work, Jovaniel spends time with his son. After they eat dinner and usually play, with an affinity for basketball. On Tuesdays, food trucks come to the neighborhood where they grab ice cream from the Udder Bar. “(On routines) Then you do it all over again but it’s like fun. I don’t know, it’s just a fun routine,” he happily shared. For the most part, Jovaniel’s hobbies are what his son’s hobbies are. At night though, when his son is tucked in bed, he and his wife enjoy watching TV. “We pick a show and we’ll do an episode a week, and that’s always fun,” he said. When he gets free time, he likes to play online video games. He even built his a PC to do so! “I don’t like story mode games, I like to play with other people. It’s just fun to be competitive,” Jovaniel said. A little friendly competition is healthy. We appreciate Jovaniel’s kind and sociable nature as part of ATAS production. Thank you for your hard work!

Employee Spotlight: Meet Kevin Cox! For all things interiors, Kevin’s your guy. Having started at ATAS in 2016 as a product rep for the Carolinas, Kevin has worked his way up to Interiors Channel Manager. He summarizes his duties in three words. “Promote, mentor, and teach,” he said. When he says teach, he means it. He's entrusted with educating ATAS product reps to equip them with the skills to sell the interior metals piece. It also includes many tradeshows and interactions with different firms. “I enjoy the travel with it, it takes me all over the country and I get to work with a lotta different people, personalities, and places,” he shared. Kevin keeps a pulse on all interior projects from design to development. He jokes about another aspect of his position. “(I) put out a fire here and there, and that’s about it,” he laughed. Unsurprisingly, Kevin’s favorite ATAS product is interiors. Recently, he’s been excited about our beam and baffle products and projects. “I do love the beam and baffle pieces we’ve been able to do. They’ve been really creative,” he said before sharing some projects in detail. The two projects he mentioned were the Witherspoon Student Union and the Rose Garden Tea Room, two artistic and ambitious projects. “Both (were) fun because no one else was really gonna do them because they were so specialized and so custom,” Kevin excitedly said. He’s someone always up for a challenge and approaches them with optimism and positivity. It’s part of who Kevin is. “I try generally to stay away from hate. You couldn’t tell it from the news, but there’s so many more decent, solid, kind people than they are not,” he asserts. He’s one of those good guys. He always has a smile, is quick to joke, and operates with genuine charisma making it easy to like and work with him. When he’s not traveling for work, Kevin enjoys appreciating the outdoors. “I enjoy hiking, biking, traveling, and I love both the mountains and the ocean, so North Carolina was a really good place to live,” he said smiling. His other time is happily spent chasing his grandbabies. They live close to by which means he’s very active in their life, offering support where he can and loving every minute of it. There’s still some time before Kevin thinks about retiring. On about where he wants to retire, he thinks of the West Carolina mountains. He recalls a local tale about the mountains that he believes in. “(They) say that the mountains put a curse on the people, that once you live there if you leave, you will always long to be back. And it is a curse that I suffer,” he playfully said. Being so connected to nature, in deciding on a spirit animal, Kevin was divided between two. A hawk and a dolphin, two uniquely different choices. “I’ll say a dolphin. They’re free-flowing, energetic, happy, invigored, all things that I like and try to be,” he clarified. We certainly think you’re all those things, Kevin. Thank you for all you do, ATAS appreciates you!
