National Hispanic Heritage Month is meaningful to ATF's Miami Field Division Industry Operations Investigator Janisett De La Caridad Ortegoza because it provides the opportunity to share the positive elements and traditions of a community that can sometimes be overshadowed. She is a second-generation American, with family roots in Cuba. Ortegoza began her federal career in the military as an intelligence analyst with the U.S. Army. She is the first in her family to have joined the armed forces and also the first to work for a law enforcement agency. Ortegoza is proud of ATF’s mission to reduce street crime and deter gun violence. Learn more about Ortegoza at https://lnkd.in/etkEqeBg. #WeAreATF

Last month across ATF: ATF deployed ESF #13 on behalf of the DOJ to support Hurricane Helene recovery efforts; hosted discussions on combatting the proliferation of machinegun conversion devices; helped ensure #UNGA79 was secure; assisted in the manhunt of the I-75 shooter in Kentucky; assisted the FBI-led investigation into the former President Trump assassination; numerous ATF-investigated cases were adjudicated or pleas were made in high-profile cases; and we honored our own during the ATF annual awards ceremony. It's National Forensic Science Week! ATF offers various career opportunities in forensic science, technology, engineering and mathematics. ATF’s forensic chemists analyze physical evidence from crime scenes to assist investigators in solving crimes. During an investigation, they help to collect and process evidence to reconstruct crime scenes. They then interpret scientific data from post-blast debris, fire debris, and trace evidence to identify leads. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/eVMGMaBi. #STEM #ForensicScienceWeek #ATFJobs

A machinegun conversion device (MCD) is used to convert a semi-automatic pistol or rifle into an automatic firearm. These devices, aka “switches” or “auto sears,” are considered machineguns under the law, and simply possessing a conversion device can mean years in federal prison. Between 2018 and 2023, ATF recovered thousands of MCDs. Violent street gangs are using these devices with more and more frequency, devastating communities and neighborhoods. Learn more about what ATF, and the entire Department of Justice, are doing to tackle this very dangerous problem at https://lnkd.in/g394AZiV. #DisruptTheShootingCycle #ANTI-MCD

    • Handgun with a machinegun conversion device installed. Text reads: "Using, making, selling, or even possessing a machinegun conversion device is illegal. Full stop. Been that way for decades." Steve Dettelbach, ATF Director. REPORT TIPS:
