🏆 AtG Finishes Leadville 100! 👟 Running a 100-mile ultramarathon at an average altitude of 10,200ft with over 15,000 feet of climbing takes intense training, grit, guts and determination. Coming from sea level we didn’t really know how the altitude would affect us, and Leadville certainly punched us in the face. AtG overcame stressful/hectic work deadlines the week of the race, limited acclimation time to altitude, and the anticipation of running one of the hardest 100-milers in the world.  Arriving in Leadville with crew Anne/Tom Morel (pacer), Dee Cuttell, Lisa Morel (crew chief), Colt Sheffer (pacer), and Thomas Difestano (pacer), we knew a lot was riding on this finish and by Friday afternoon we got so intensely focused that nothing else mattered. It was Adam, the crew, the mountains, and God to take on the journey.  During the race we battled intense cramping, aggressive cutoff times, lack of water, and pure pain and suffering running through the Rocky Mountains.  Despite the odds stacked against us, the true mentality of going against the grain and digging deep shined forth. God provided the strength needed to push up the 3400ft Hope’s Pass climb, down to Winfield, and back up/over the mountain while chasing the time cutoffs. In the end, the crew made it to the finish line in 29hrs 16min and we celebrated the victory which was achieved in a Psalm 91 and Luke 6:48 kind of way. We already knew this fact stated by Ken Choubler (founder of the Leadville100), but it is good to be reminded that “we are better than we think we are and we can do more than we think we can.” This is true for all of us at AtG Engineering as well, as we grow our company into something exceptional. Why do we participate in such crazy running events that produce so much pain and require so much mental fortitude? The true reason is that in our weakness HE is strong, and the dig deep mentality we attack all of our projects with is the same attitude used to accomplish Leadville. How does ultrarunning intersect with engineering you may ask? Running a 100-mile is simply a microcosm of life and that in 100 miles you experience all the highs and lows of life and business. We are on “mile 3” with AtG, and are just getting started! The finish line awaits! Photos featured: Sunrise just after 6am the morning of the race - Adam’s already been on the trail for about two hours! A portion of the trail showing off the blue skies and fluffy white clouds later in the day. Two finish photos featuring the iconic finishing belt buckle, and the team in Colorado. #marathon #leadville100 #ultrarunning #running #resilience #strength #structuralengineer

👟This is it! The Leadville100 begins tomorrow - and our P.E. Adam will have up to 30 hours to complete the 100 mile trail run in the Colorado mountains. We’re excited and proud to have him representing AtG as he takes on this trail challenge. As believers, we put our faith in the strength of God when we know our own strength isn’t enough. In the same vein, as a structural engineering company AtG strives to provide only the best of the best in designing strong and enduring structural foundations for each and every project our clients bring to us. Luke 6:48 says: “They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.” Check out some of the pictures Adam has sent us as he and his wife Lisa hiked a pre-set along the trail earlier in the week! We’re sending Adam well-wishes and prayers for safety, good health, and endurance as he hits the trail tomorrow for “The Race Across the Sky”. 🏃🏻 Leave a message below and send Adam some good luck for his run! #marathon #ultrarunning #running #resilience #strength #structuralengineer

🏃🏻 Fun fact! Our PE Adam Morel is an ultra runner - and in a little over a week from now, will participate in one of the oldest endurance running events in the world. The Leadville100 is an overnight marathon with over 18,000 feet of elevation gain through rugged Colorado mountains. The grueling trails push runners to “Dig Deep” as they traverse steep climbs, high-altitude passes, and technical terrain - and AtG has always strived to Dig Deeper, going Against the Grain in the world of structural engineering. Luke 6:48 says: “They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.” 🌄 Have you ever participated in an ultra marathon? We wish Adam the best as he begins final prep for “The Race Across the Sky”! 👟 Leave a message below and send Adam some good luck for his run! #marathon #ultrarunning #running #resilience #structuralengineer

This week we’re pleased to feature another design collaboration effort with Carroll W. Johnson from Residential Designs / Residential Homes Designs (NC). As we move more and more into a digital age, we can appreciate Carroll's talent and skill with a beautiful hand drawn plan! This was another ICF home we were happy to provide the structural planning for. We are always pleased to help homeowners make their dream home a reality - and a lasting one at that! 🏠 #structuraldesign #engineering #homedesign #residential #collaboration

We’re so excited to have Lainie, a student in one of our local Governor's STEM Academy programs, as our summer intern this year with AtG Engineering. We are pleased to support work-based learning programs in our community, and seek to provide an uplifting and instructive atmosphere to introduce to young engineers-to-be why structural engineering is the best job around! 👷 #structuralengineering  #practicallearning  #STEM #HamptonRoads

This week we're featuring a renovation we helped with a local small business owner in Portsmouth. We removed an interior 27-foot load bearing wall and created a new beam design to support the structure while providing more usable space for the owner. Our happy customer’s store opens at the end of the month! 🎉 It’s not always common knowledge that load bearing walls can in fact be removed. It is a complex process however, and requires careful planning of the structural integrity of the building. If you’re ever considering a demolition or a renovation, make sure that you check with a structural engineer to ensure your buildings, homes, and stores are always structurally sound. 💪 #structuralengineering #engineering #localbusiness

✏ This week we are featuring one of our residential structural designs, a ~3200 sq. ft. home that includes a ~700 sq. ft. garage along with a covered terrace, porches, and elevated decks. It was an excellent design collaboration effort with Carroll W. Johnson from Residential Designs / Residential Homes Designs (NC) to make our homeowner's dreams a reality both architecturally and structurally. The 2-story home is designed with 6" ICF (Insulated Concrete Form) walls and a raised slab foundation along with spread footings at concentrated load points. ICF homes are unmatched and offer increased strength, energy efficiency, storm resistance, and durability. If you want to build something that lasts, build with ICF and call AtG Engineering to design the concrete house of your dreams - to last for generations to come! #structuraldesign #engineering #homedesign #residential #collaboration
