Ep. 47: Race in Athletic Training-A Roundtable Discussion LINK: https://lnkd.in/gGJTj5D Racism is wrong. Hate can’t be accepted. Just not being “racist” is not enough to propel change. In order to help create change, we have to listen, work to comprehend and accept the fact that those in privileged positions can never understand what diverse people go through. ATChat hasn’t put a statement out because we needed to listen and learn from people that experience racism on potentially daily basis. We denounce any form or racism or hate, not only within the athletic training community but in the world in general. We will do more to help be part of the change that is needed to increase equality and work with our diverse professionals to succeed and feel safe while doing so. This roundtable discussion on Race in Athletic Training is a starting point and we can’t think Krystal, Ryan, Mercedes, Andrew, Brandon, Susan, Mike and Austin for being a part of the conversation and education. We held this roundtable to listen, learn, and find opportunities to try and make things better. #blacklivesmatter, racism and hate are still a problem. We need to do better and look forward to the opportunities to continue the conversation and do our part to make things better.

Dave has seen and done a lot in his life and his career. In this episode, he shares what life was like growing up being an amputee and how he learned from all his experiences and its impact on how he interacts and cares for patients. Dave also talks about his faith and the role it played when making big time life decisions. He also talks about how it impacts his care and how he is always open to the conversation about faith but never wants anyone to feel like it is being pushed onto them. In addition to all the things Dave does in life and work, he also stays extremely engaged in service and shares why that is important to him. She works in a location where there are several different hospital systems and a variety of places people can go to receive care. Due to this, collaboration with many different professionals is key to helping patients get back to what they are working towards. In this episode we discuss some of the inter-professional collaborations she has formed and how she went about making them happen. We specifically discuss how she has been able help change the care for heat emergencies with local EMS. Caitlin discusses what athletic trainers can do to help forge that connection and make sure that everyone can get on the same page to provide the highest level of care possible to the patients they serve. This all started as a project and solving a problem that many people had stated, they just couldn’t find CEUs that were legit and actually free. Mitchell started ATfreeCEU.com and in this episode, he shares his story on how it all got started. He also discusses the process he goes through to audit the CEUs on a semi-annual basis to ensure that everything stays up to date. It is pretty impressive to hear how many free CEUs there are out there. There are plenty to cover several periods of CEU reporting. The purpose was to serve the performance community but during these COVID times its seen its own evolution and has many exciting ideas coming in the future. In this episode we discuss what it took to set up Offset Med and how that has worked starting in California where license isn’t necessary, yet, Aaron wanted to set it up by best practice and look at physician oversight.
