Details around TEAM suggest it could significantly disrupt how hospitals operate outpatient and specialty departments. TEAM will begin in January 2026, giving hospitals a little more than a year to prepare. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services hit a major milestone in #Medicare drug price negotiations today. Overall, ATI Advisory finds that negotiated prices are substantially below their statutory minimums and average net prices in Part D. For most drugs, this speaks to the power of concentrating negotiating leverage rather than fragmenting it. Compared with national average net prices in industry data, Maximum Fair Prices (MFPS) appear closer to national averages than Part D averages. This isn’t too surprising, as Part D net price averages are known to be higher than those in most other US health plans, including other federal payers. The results also speak to the importance of competition to drive better bargains. The notable exception to big price cuts is Imbruvica, a cancer drug that has long enjoyed protection from competition and payer negotiating power because plans are required to cover it. ATI experts Brian Fuller and Fred Bentley sat down with McKnight's Long-Term Care News to unpack CMS' new mandatory bundled payment model, TEAM, with considerations for skilled nursing facilities (SNFs). The five procedures included in TEAM -- lower extremity joint replacement, surgical hip femur fracture treatment, spinal fusion, coronary artery bypass graft, and major bowel procedure -- account for more than 11% of all Medicare inpatient payments.
