In February, Monica Moody’s life changed forever. Moody, 55, was diagnosed that month with multiple myeloma, a blood cancer, and would soon have to go through chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant to give her the best chance to fight the disease. Shortly after the diagnosis, Moody’s niece recommended she set up a page on SupportNow, a startup founded by Scott Arogeti and Jordan Arogeti of Dunwoody, that combines aspects of GoFundMe, CaringBridge, Meal Train® and more into one website for people going through tough times like illness or grieving the loss of a loved one. In the past year, more than 20,000 people have used SupportNow and raised more than $1 million through the platform, according to the founders. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eT6MEwaS

Atlanta’s Super Bowl comeback is official! When the NFL announced that the Super Bowl will be held in Atlanta in 2028, one local official called it a “fantastic compliment” to the city. It’s the fourth Super Bowl in the city’s history, after being the game was held at the Georgia Dome in 1994 and 2000 and at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2019. The location of Mercedes-Benz Stadium and having the Georgia World Congress Center, Centennial Olympic Park and other venues for ancillary events within walking distance of the stadium and downtown hotel rooms was a major selling point. Who’s excited to see the big game back in the ATL? Drop a 🏆 if you’ll be watching from the Benz! More: https://lnkd.in/en_2jpMa

The Mall of Georgia is ready to party like it's 1999. The Peach State's largest shopping mall is celebrating its 25th anniversary and has festivities planned Thursday to celebrate. The 1.7-million-square-foot shopping mall in Buford, roughly 35 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta, will host vendors, live music, family activities and a ribbon-cutting to celebrate the milestone. While many metro Atlanta malls have struggled to compete after the e-commerce boom, the Mall of Georgia remains among the region's shopping stalwarts. Cheers to 25 years Mall of Georgia! 🥂 https://lnkd.in/eACYXXtv

A random act of kindness, the company called it. Actually, it was about 8,800 acts. ForgiveCo swooped into metro Atlanta looking for people to help, and it paid off the debt for 8,800 people picked at random, with a few caveats. It’s an unusual business model. And it can only reach a tiny fraction of the millions of Americans hog-tied to debts. But for each of them, the sudden, unexpected payment is like a small miracle. More: https://lnkd.in/eKyhSMfY

New research indicates generative artificial intelligence technologies have been adopted at a faster pace than the internet or personal computers, from chatbots like ChatGPT to image generators like Midjourney. Generative AI tools, which analyze large subsets of data, recognize patterns and create new content from a written prompt, can perform an ever-growing number of tasks in the workplace. During a panel discussion Thursday at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s 2024 Top Leaders event, several executives in Atlanta’s business ecosystem shared how their companies are adopting generative AI technologies into their day-to-day operations. Delta Air Lines managed to post a $1.27 billion profit for the third quarter, in spite of its operational meltdown triggered by the CrowdStrike outage in July and stiff competition from low-cost carriers. Looking forward, Delta expects a stronger fourth quarter, with healthy bookings for the holidays. But the airline expects to see a slowdown in travel around the November election. Delta CEO Ed Bastian said consumers tend to “pause a little bit in the face of uncertainty, not knowing where the election is going to head.” More: https://lnkd.in/e3_-Kxv7

Document Crunch, a local startup that makes artificial intelligence-powered software for construction companies, has raised $21.5 million in its latest round of funding. It is one of the biggest venture capital raises for a metro Atlanta company this year, according to an analysis of investments from data firm Crunchbase. It also highlights how investors are flocking to AI companies, such as ChatGPT and others. The company’s recent $21.5 million investment round was led by Titanium Ventures, the San Francisco-based venture capital firm that previously backed the parent company of Snapchat and cybersecurity company CrowdStrike. The investment comes just months after Document Crunch raised $9 million, a rare feat for a startup. More: https://lnkd.in/ep4JGmMH

Delta Air Lines' Atlanta hub will finally return to pre-pandemic flight capacity next summer, when the airline plans to operate its largest-ever flight schedule from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport The announcement of the summer 2025 growth plan is a milestone not only for Delta but its hometown of Atlanta, after severe challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic and a bumpy recovery. It has taken longer for Delta to restore its Atlanta service than to add more flights at its other hubs — in part because the company was focused on gaining market share at other hubs that have more competition. The backbone of the internet and brains behind artificial intelligence may seem like nebulous concepts hard to visualize in the real world. But in the Atlanta area, they’re easy to see. You just have to look at construction sites. By midyear, data center construction had increased 76% in the Atlanta market compared to the same time last year, the most among any of its peers, data from real estate services firm CBRE showed. See what’s driving this data center boom, and how it impacts you: https://lnkd.in/eVS3pMjK
