It’s voting time… If you are so inclined, take a minute to vote for our Atom Switch™. Atom Power created the world’s first UL-listed solid-state circuit breaker. Today, that technology is used in our reliable Level 2 EV charging solution. Tomorrow, it is poised to provide transformative grid technology that delivers unparalleled protection, visibility, and control at the point of electrical consumption - this includes critical sectors like data centers, industrial, commercial & residential buildings, and grid-edge distributed energy. The NC Chamber is hosting its fifth annual "Coolest Thing Made in NC" contest. You may vote daily, but only votes accompanied with a valid email address will be counted. It’s always encouraging to see the volume and variety of light-, medium-, heavy-duty, and special-use EV models increasing exponentially over the last few years at events like this. It’s another proof point that the transition continues to accelerate. Here are a few photos of those in the expo hall at the Green Transportation Summit & Expo. Over one billion people worldwide have disabilities - including physical, sensory, psychiatric, and neurodivergent ones. Disability Pride Month is celebrated in July to honor the achievements, experiences, and struggles of the disability community. People with disabilities deserve to live full, self-determined lives, just like everyone else. Look past the disability and see the person in front of you. Two of our Atom Power teammates were open to sharing their own personal stories here to help drive awareness and consideration. Thank you Sahiba and Tony! ===== “If people don’t know about my disability, they often get annoyed when I ask them to repeat things. One of the most helpful things for me is when people are patient with me.” Sahiba Gibson is a Financial Planning & Analysis Manager at Atom Power. Sahiba has hearing loss, often referred to as a “hidden disability”. These types of disabilities can be frustrating for the person with the disability and for those around them who are unaware. Sahiba has genetic hearing loss and has been wearing hearing aids for the last 8 years. For years prior, she was adamant that she could hear “just fine” until she went to an audiologist and was diagnosed with moderate to severe hearing loss and fitted for hearing aids. For the first several months, she was surprised by all the little things that made noise (e.g. typing, pen clicking, the beeping at crosswalks). It literally opened her up to new experiences, but she still has hearing loss even when using the hearing aids. Being understanding and patient with people with disabilities is so important. When meeting someone for the first time, be mindful that they could have some type of hidden disability. And once you are aware of their disability, be considerate in how to best interact with them. ===== “I am a husband, a father, a brother, a son, a colleague, a friend, a mentor, nationally ranked adaptive golfer, adaptive golf coach and an advocate. I am more than just my disability.” Anthony McMillian is proud to be a Senior Commodity Manager at Atom Power. Tony is also a below the knee bi-lateral amputee. He became a bi-lateral amputee in December 2018 after a car accident and undergoing a lengthy hospital stay followed by months of recovery. This was an extremely challenging part of his life, but he says it made him stronger. Most people with visible disabilities do not integrate into society well because of uncomfortable feelings for themselves and those around them. Tony prefers people to do the following: 1. Ask respectfully about his disability. Remember because you ask, does not mean he is obligated to share. 2. Understand that the only thing that is different about him is that he uses tools to walk. His mind and spirit are still strong. His will to compete in business and his personal life is stronger today as it has been. 3. Be kind. He is a human being with all of the same issues and struggles. #DisabilityPrideMonth #BeKind #BeConsiderate
