At #ATRIUM, we’re combining cutting-edge #technology with #ecofriendly materials to revolutionize construction. Wood K plus - Kompetenzzentrum Holz GmbH, as project partner, is developing the 5th generation of Wood Plastic Composite (WPCs) terrace decking profiles based on bio-PE (from sugar cane) and/or recycled PE reinforced with different recycled organic fibers - #waste materials collected during production of medium density fiber (MDF) and particle boards (PB) from furniture factories. Wood K plus - Kompetenzzentrum Holz GmbH is combining co-extrusion with foaming processes to reduce the density of the manufactured profiles, contributing to their #sustainability. This close collaboration with hartika - wood composite system (Poland) on selecting recycled fibers and testing profile performance ensures the quality of the materials produced. The first tests involving different bio-based PE types, combined with recycled MDF and PB dust, are ongoing at Wood K Plus' facilities. Initial results have shown up to a 30% reduction in density for some PE types combined with PB fiber, highlighting the potential for lightweight, sustainable profiles. As the project coordinator, our partner Aitiip Centro Tecnológico is also leading the development and scaling of #biobased materials for #sustainable building solutions. 🔬 So far, Aitiip has tested bioplastics from #renewable sources and is now exploring new bio-based alternatives. These materials will be reinforced with natural fibers like flax and hemp, enhancing strength and durability. 🖨️ Aitiip is also applying large-scale 3D printing, a fast and efficient manufacturing process that enables the #production of complex, high-performance components. This technology will be used to create the water collection systems for ATRIUM’s Green Wall, a key feature for #sustainable urban #design.
