Equitable, high-quality healthcare is a fundamental right for everyone. Recent research highlights significant barriers to telehealth for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities, especially in hospice care. While technology has the potential to improve access, disparities can deepen without a culturally sensitive approach. Many in these communities face challenges like limited internet access, which can hinder critical end-of-life care, including pain management and emotional support. To improve outcomes, hospice providers must adopt culturally competent practices, offer services in multiple languages, and invest in digital literacy. Bridging the digital divide is essential to ensuring equitable healthcare access for all, particularly at such a vulnerable stage of life. A new study published in JAMA Network Open highlights persistent disparities in preterm birth (PTB) rates across racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups. Preterm birth, the leading cause of infant mortality worldwide, is most common among Black, Alaska Native, and Pacific Islander mothers with public insurance. The study found that PTB rates have increased from 2011 to 2022, with significant gaps in care and outcomes based on socioeconomic status and race. This research underscores the urgent need for better access to personalized prenatal care and equitable treatment to reduce disparities in maternal and infant health.
