At the ICGS Educating Girls Symposium this past week, we had an incredible breakout session with Rachael Flores, Ed.D., Head of Upper School at Spence. We dove into what it really takes to support students effectively and we wanted to share some of the biggest takeaways: 📌 Cross-functional leadership is key – A dedicated student support leader who spans both K-12 and across disciplines (counselors, learning specialists, deans, etc.) is essential for ensuring no student falls through the cracks. 📌 Policy should be bottom-up, not top-down – The best policies aren’t written in a vacuum. They should be driven by real student cases, tested in action, and refined based on what actually works. 📌 A formal system of record is non-negotiable – Continuity of care depends on organized, secure documentation. Without a clear system, student support becomes fragmented, and institutional knowledge is lost. It was amazing to be in a room with so many thoughtful educators, sharing best practices to ensure every student has the support they need to thrive. 💙 #ICGS #StudentSupport #ContinuityOfCare #EducatingGirls
