Last week, Hurricane Helene swept through Florida and Georgia, causing severe damage, including power outages, flooding, and structural impacts. Fortunately, initial inspections at our plant indicated only superficial damage and no significant structural damage. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of our site management and contractor teams, we expect construction to resume next week. However, many of our employees have faced personal losses, with homes being damaged and essential utilities like electricity, water, and gasoline unavailable in parts of the region. Our priority has been the safety and well-being of our team. We’ve established temporary headquarters, supplied essential items, and made the plant’s facilities available for employees needing access to water, showers, and electricity. As we work towards full recovery, our thoughts remain with all those affected by the hurricane. We’re grateful for the solidarity that defines Aurubis Richmond. #Aurubis #AurubisRichmond #GermanAmericanDay #TeamGeorgia #HurricaneRecovery #youareourmostvaluableElement
About us
Aurubis - Metals for Progress Aurubis is undertaking trailblazing work with a new recycling plant in the US: for about € 300 million, the company is building the first secondary smelter specializing in multimetal recycling in the US, thus making a targeted investment in expanding its own recycling business. In the future, a state-of-the-art plant in Augusta (Richmond County) in the state of Georgia will process about 90,000 t of complex recycling materials annually. The plant is a key contribution to Aurubis’ commitment to the circular economy and to the company’s goal of being carbon-neutral well before 2050. The construction started in June 2022. The plant should be commissioned in the first half of 2024. Further information at www.aurubis.com/richmond
