I had the pleasure of attending the Australian Hazara Legal Networking event last week. A huge thank you to Sitarah Mohammadi and Sajjad Askary for organising such a well-planned and informative event. It was truly inspiring to witness the strong support from so many legal professionals for Australian Hazara legal professionals and law students.

Last night, I had the privilege of attending the Australian Hazara Legal Network & Victoria Legal Aid in Dandenong. The evening truly highlighted the significance of community and the power of connection. The event brought together Hazara law students, lawyers, and VLA professionals, creating a unique space to share experiences, insights, and aspirations. As a former refugee and non-law student, It was inspiring to hear from fellow former refugees who have successfully navigated their pathways into the legal profession and are now making significant contributions across various practice areas. One of the highlights was the opportunity to connect with representatives from VLA’s Dandenong and Sunshine offices, where the Hazara community is strongly represented. The conversations emphasized how vital local networks and support systems are in empowering our community and nurturing professional development. A big thank you to the amazing and talented Sitarah Mohammadi & Sajjad Askary who made this event possible and to everyone who attended. On Friday 23 August 2024, we held our inaugural Australian Hazara Legal Networking event, organised by our co-founders, Sitarah Mohammadi and Sajjad Askary was truly remarkable. We welcomed over 50 Australian lawyers from Victoria Legal Aid, Russell Kennedy, the Human Rights Law Centre, South-East Monash Legal Service, Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Refugee Legal, Beena Rezaee Legal & Migration, Dostizada Legal & Migration, Azlan Lawyers, Auzzie Visa & Immigration Services, Comnectica Migration, and other law firms. Altogether, we were delighted to be joined by over 200 people, including lawyers, our law students, distinguished members of the community, federal and state MPs, and councillors, academics, artists and doctors. It was a night filled with inspiration, powerful connections, and a poignant reminder of the resilience of the Hazara people—all former refugees now thriving in their legal careers. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made it an unforgettable evening.
