One of the best aspects of YC that isn't discussed enough is the access it brings. YC gives you a seat at the table with so many amazing companies that it's hard to measure the potential impact. Within 3 weeks, we were able to send a SLACK message to members of the OpenAI team asking about access to fine-tuning GPT-4o with images, get into the alpha program, run a sprint to test out the new capabilities, and are now being featured in their blog post, launching this to the world. It's amazing to see the emergent capabilities of these models with even a small dataset—100 examples—and to see a significant uplift in both document extraction and RPA tasks. Generative AI is the new superpower for intelligent document processing; in 2023 we named it the 4th Wave. We reviewed several cool startups who use LLMs and GenAI to read documents and extract data - without the typical massive and expensive model pretraining we've come to expect with IDP. Pleased to announce the winner of the Deep Analysis IDP Startup of the Year award: Automat AI Automations. This pure 4th Wave startup works out of Y-Combinator and is fresh off a successful seed round. With its innovative application of robotic AI methods and GenAI, Automat could disrupt the intelligent automation market. Using LLMs and VLMs (visual language models), Automat creates an operational workflow from a video, an image, or plain English text instructions. IDP functionality is part of the process. For example, on a whiteboard one can draw a workflow that opens and reads incoming documents, summarizes them, and then distributes the summary to the team. Simply snap a picture of the whiteboard and upload it to Automat where an online workflow app is automatically generated.
