Hurricanes usually track along the coast rather than moving across large inland areas. However, Hurricane Milton promised to be a very different kind of hurricane – one more like Charley, which devastated central Florida back in 2004. To prepare for the storm, our Orlando team shut down the office, sandbagged the doors, and offered extra sandbags to the staff. We have around 300 sandbags, and all of them were used. Our team members make a point of looking out for each other to make sure everyone has the resources and support they need. During and after the hurricane, we checked in with each other using a group text. Luckily, the storm ended up being a Cat 1 by the time it crossed over Orlando. Nonetheless, winds and rain were significant, and everyone was still recovering from the last hurricane. Half our team lost power, and a quarter of our team went without power for several days. When Mike Parker heard fellow Orlando employee Brenna Swan and her kids had no power, he brought over his generator for them to use. We thought we would share the sweet note we received from Brenna’s 10-year-old son, Camden.
