Today, the Texas 2036 Communications team took some "space" from the Austin office to check out Space Day at the Texas Capitol. It was exciting to not only meet the incredible minds at NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, but to also meet the folks at Axiom Space, Firefly Aerospace, ILC Dover, and more who are pioneering the way for the commercial space industry. Cool facts we learned today: 🚀 Axiom Space's new space suit will make its debut in 2027. The engineers at Axiom teamed up with Prada engineers in designing the multilayered suit. 🚀 NASA Astronauts don't eat bread in space. The reason - crumbs fly everywhere. That's why they use tortillas (some made in San Antonio) or pita bread as their substitute carb. In 2024, 3,120 tortillas were consumed on the International Space Station. (Cookies are an exception in space, however) 🚀 The Apollo Lunar Touch Stone is a moon rock sample collected during the Apollo 17 mission that NASA allows people to touch. The rock sample is mare basalt and is about 3,750,000,000 years older than 99% of all Earth surface rocks.
