LOCAL EXCELLENCE: The Arizona Medical Association congratulates El Rio Community Health Center on being recognized by the American Medical Association's Joy in Medicine program. The AMA's Joy in Medicine program recognizes healthcare systems nationwide for reducing physician burnout and supporting well-being. El Rio is the only system in Arizona to achieve "Gold" recognition to date. 🥇And, it is the first Federally Qualified Health Center to be recognized at this level in the nation. According to Health Chief Wellness Officer Mark Schildt, El Rio is combatting burnout through "...dinner/discussion groups to help foster camaraderie and connection, close collaboration...to continually optimize the EHR experience, regularly assessing key leadership behaviors among clinical leaders and providing opportunities for ongoing leadership development, and working with key partners such as Compassion Institute, MAVEN Project, and Capacitarte to provide clinicians with a diverse menu of support resources depending on their individual needs.” Thank you, El Rio team, for the inspiring work you're doing to address #clinicianburnout!

🎉 DYK: 2025 marks 50 impactful years of ArMA's Doctor of the Day Program! What was ArMA up to in 50 years ago? Take a trip through time with us... 📆 Pre-internet and email newsletter, ArMA proudly released a quarterly print publication, Arizona Medicine, highlighting physicians' work and important trends in healthcare. The publication began as Southwestern Medicine in 1917 and ran almost 30 years before becoming Arizona Medicine in 1944. Arizona Medicine was quarterly released until its final issue in 2000, under the name Western Journal. Featured on the cover of the 1974 issue is our 83rd president, William G. Payne, MD, speaking at ArMA's Annual Meeting. 🏛️ At its start, the Doctor of the Day program was actually the "Physician of the Day" program. Dr. Edward Sattenspiel spearheaded the program and would later become ArMA president. Highlighted in Arizona Medicine's 1976 issue, "Dr. Sattenspiel reviewed letters received from... [the] Speaker of the Arizona House of Representatives and... [the] president of Arizona State Senate both thanking us for providing the Physician of the Day Program and expressing interest in continuing the program next year." ⏰ Flash forward, and ArMA's Doctor of the Day program is now a regular feature at the Arizona State Capitol. Want to be a part of the legacy? Stay tuned for further updates and information on this year's program! #arizonamedicine #arizonadoctors #arizonahistory #azlegsilature #azcapitol #azpolitics #advocacy #2025doctoroftheday #bratsummer
