  • Thank you to Living Well Kent Collaborative for illustrating the impact our services have had on one local family. "Living Well Kent (LWK) has been a vital support system for a family of six who are refugees from Malaysia living in Kent, WA. We first connected with a pregnant woman whose due date was approaching within the month. She first sought housing assistance due to an eviction notice. After conducting a needs assessment, we identified her urgent need for baby essentials and food as well. Thanks to our partnership with Babies of Homelessness, we were able to provide essential diapers, wipes, and formula, alleviating some of her worries as she prepared for her due date. With the support of LWK's staff, we referred her to local shelters and connected her with the Kent School District for translation assistance, ensuring her school-age children received the support they needed. We also guided her in finding new housing opportunities and completing low-income housing applications. LWK has maintained ongoing contact with the mother, who has since given birth. She has shared how invaluable the weekly supply of diapers and few cans of formula has been in keeping her newborn healthy during this unstable period. Our commitment to supporting this family continues as they navigate the challenges of securing housing and await information on moving forward with low-income assistance."

  • We are so grateful to Living Well Kent Collaborative for their partnership and for this wonderful testimonial! "Living Well Kent (LWK) launched its free diaper distribution service in 2020 in response to increased diaper needs identified at our Cultural Food Hub. Our Food Hub operates weekly, offering free food distributions and opportunities for community members to connect with staff about our various programs, including LWK’s preschool, after-school youth program, and assistance with basic needs referrals. Initially, our diaper program was supported by small grants and community donations. However, funding gaps occasionally forced us to pause the diaper distribution. We are pleased to have established a partnership with Babies of Homelessness, which now allows us to provide consistent weekly service to visitors at LWK’s Cultural Food Hub. Families can visit LWK on Thursdays from 11 AM to 3 PM to receive a bag of fresh produce and pantry essentials, along with up to 10-20 diapers, wipes (while supplies last), and formula upon request. We are committed to maintaining this weekly support year-round without interruptions. The families we serve are primarily immigrants and refugees from Kent, Auburn, and surrounding areas in South King County. Our community reflects a rich diversity, with languages including Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Pashto, Punjabi, Somali, Spanish, and Ukrainian. These communities often face unique challenges related to employment and housing and depend on public benefits like SNAP and WIC. Many have been disproportionately affected by the financial impacts of events like the COVID-19 pandemic. Our diaper distribution aims to promote the health of infants and alleviate stress on families as they navigate recovery from job loss, housing instability, and immigration challenges."
