The Baker Center for Children and Families reposted this
I'm grateful to have attended my second American Public Health Association conference in Minneapolis last week. It was inspiring to be with dedicated public health professionals tackling some of today's most important challenges. This year's theme, "Rebuilding Trust in Public Health," resonated deeply with the work we do at The Baker Center for Children and Families. During the conference, I had the opportunity to present on the vital role that trust plays in implementing evidence-based practices within community mental health agencies, especially those supporting children's behavioral health. Our relational approach to technical strategies was centered on key elements like co-creating site-specific solutions, maintaining consistent and individualized touchpoints, and leveraging authenticity and collaboration. I'm so thankful to Sarah Tannenbaum, PsyD, ABPP, Sean Snyder, Rachel E. Kim and Daniel Cheron for their partnership and guidance. Across the conference sessions, storytelling emerged as a powerful tool for building trust amid misinformation. From discussions on post-Dobbs abortion care to navigating the ethical use of AI in public health, each session highlighted the central importance of trust in addressing today's most pressing public health challenges. Speakers also reinforced the necessity of keeping health equity at the heart of public health efforts. I left the conference feeling inspired and equipped with new strategies to strengthen community partnerships and amplify trust in my own work #APHA2024
