This year's Mountain Empire Community College (MECC) Ballad Health Golf Tournament was a hole-in-one! ⛳ As sponsors of the annual golf classic, it was our pleasure to support teams as they hit the green to raise funds for the Lee County Endowed Scholarship at MECC. This scholarship is a testament to elevating our community by providing well-earned scholarships to graduates in Lee County, VA. By increasing access to funds for higher education, we are strengthening the future of the Appalachian Highlands by extending the opportunity to develop a broader range of skills, traits and knowledge. Thank you, MECC, for being the catalyst that allows growth to skyrocket and for futures to become brighter through education in Southwest Virginia! #balladhealth

VP, Project Management and Operational Excellence at Ballad Health

We had a strong showing from the Ballad Health Operational Excellence department and Ballad Ventures at last night's ACHE of East Tennessee Panel Event. Kerra Courtney, Caity Patten, MHA, Megan Kirkland, and Jordan Durbin are important volunteers and board members who planned and hosted an impressive panel. Our very own Anthony Keck spoke on Population Health Management alongside Rodney Adams, MMHC, FHFMA, CRCR, and Randy Wykoff. The talented Tom Tull moderated the event. I learned so much and made great new connections! Hope to see you at the next event!

It's no surprise to us that both Kingsport and Johnson City topped the list of the best places to live in Tennessee, according to USA TODAY's 2024 study! "The USA TODAY Homefront team ranked 20 cities across 16 key metrics, aiming to highlight the best locations for settling down in Tennessee." Kingsport was ranked #2 and Johnson City was named #1! "Situated just a half hour from its neighboring city, Kingsport, Johnson City performed well in categories pertaining to important metrics such as health care and public safety," USA TODAY reports. "It ranks second highest for the number of primary care providers per 1,000 residents (9.6), ensuring excellent health care access for its population." Both these spots in the Appalachian Highlands are absolutely beautiful places to make a home in, with lower costs of living and great healthcare access earning them the top two rankings on the list. Communities are the change-makers, and we're proud to invest in ours. Our community health navigators are dedicated team members who bridge gaps in healthcare by providing personalized assistance and connecting patients to essential resources. Dr. Paula Masters, our chief health disparities officer, shared the impact of our community health navigator program with Richmond magazine. “We saw a 29% reduction of hospitalizations for that population,” says Dr. Masters. "That’s a big deal. It’s a big deal for the health system, it’s a big deal for those providers, and it’s a really big deal for that client and their family." Our navigators: 🌟 Provide personalized assistance, guiding patients through the healthcare system. 🌟 Connect individuals with essential resources like food, housing, and transportation. 🌟 Offer vital health education to empower and support our community. Read more of Dr. Masters’ interview about the work our community health navigators do every day from Richmond magazine. #balladhealth

Chip Childress has been leveraging technology to help people since he built a computer for his dad’s company at age 16. Now, as assistant vice president of information technology, Chip is still wielding technology and a willing spirit to make people’s work easier. “I’ve been a solver my whole life,” Chip says. He’s dedicated to solving problems for Ballad Health team members, and that means finding out what they really need. Chip explains that his process starts with people, as he seeks to provide technology that works for them – not the other way around. Chip’s wife, Kandy, also works at Ballad Health. They have five adult children, two grandchildren with another on the way, and three dogs. Some of the things Chip is proudest of are his marriage, his children and just “getting to enjoy life.” When Chip isn’t working, he and his wife love to be out and about, driving and enjoying the beauty of rural Appalachia. “My family has lived in this area since Abraham Lincoln’s presidency,” Chip says. He can’t imagine living anywhere else. Outside of work, Chip has a true passion for driving. “I’ve always loved to make things go,” Chip says. On vacations, he attends driving schools and has driven sports cars, tractors, school buses, trailer trucks and more. “Everything has its own feel - its own sound.” Chip also writes computer programs to run things in his cars and his smart home system, even coding the blinds in the living room to close when the television is turned on. That’s the kind of person Chip is – always improving things. “It’s a constant journey,” he says. “You can’t just get there and be done.” And while Chip might be able to drive anything, there’s one simple thing that drives him and his team. He says, “We really like to help people.” #balladhealth #leadership #leaderspotlight
