🌟 PhD Opportunity with Ballestra in Collaboration with UniTus: Sustainable Production of Sugar-Based Surfactants! 🌟   Are you looking for a PhD position in the field of chemistry and chemical engineering? Don't miss this fantastic opportunity at the University of Tuscia (UniTus) in Italy!   The DIBAF department is now accepting applications for the XL PhD program in Science, Technology, and Biotechnology for Sustainability. As a PhD student, you will work on an exciting, funded project in collaboration with the R&D department of Ballestra, a leading engineering company in Milan specializing in surfactant, soap, and detergent plants. This collaboration between Ballestra and UniTus provides a unique opportunity to work with industry leaders and gain hands-on experience in real-world applications. Additionally, you will have the chance to spend six months abroad at a top research laboratory, further enhancing your research and networking opportunities. This multidisciplinary research aims at exploring more sustainable alternatives to traditional chemical processes for producing sugar-based surfactants. The project will involve new reactor configurations and process schemes using experimental and mathematical approaches, including design of experiments and multiphysics simulations, at both laboratory and semi-industrial scales.   📅 Details: • Program duration: 3 years (1st November 2024 – 31st October 2027); thesis defense by April 2028 • Application deadline: August 19th at 2 pm The research will be conducted at: • Laboratory of Unit Operations at UniTus in Viterbo (12 months) • R&D department of Ballestra in Milan (18 months) • A top research laboratory abroad (6 months)   You will be supervised by Prof. Marcello Fidaleo and Dr. Ilio Sebastiani.   Who should apply? Candidates with a strong background in reactor engineering, chemistry, catalysis, and organic chemistry.
