Trails, especially within urban metro centers, are critically important to enhance the health and wellness of residents. They offer a respite from urban life and great opportunities for exercise and recreation, walking, hiking, or biking. Baltimore City Recreation & Parks is pleased to welcome our new Trails Manager Tim Howell. We invite you to read about his new role and the opportunities he has working with one of our community partners, Friends of Gwynns Falls Leakin Park. https://lnkd.in/eQ7Ujq3X #Baltimore #trails #parks #recreation #environment #health #wellness #environment #urbanspaces #greenspaces #GwynnsFalls

#BlackHistoryMonth affords organizations the opportunity to not only spotlight history but also show how much they have evolved. Baltimore City Recreation & Parks begins February’s celebration by remembering a historic day in our backyard at Druid Hill Park. In 1948, an interracial group of tennis players challenged the segregation of that time. Today, the former “Negro”‘courts are refurbished and enjoyed by everyone. Throughout this month Rec & Parks will feature African Americans’ contributions as well as some of our employees who are graduates of Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) and/or members of Divine 9 Black Sororities and Fraternities. #Baltimore #recreation #parks #equity #diversity #racialequity #BlackHistoryMonth

On December 5, a fire struck Camp Small, Baltimore City's wood recycling center. The center's supply comes primarily from downed trees caused by storms and other natural events. In the last few weeks, Camp Small staff has made an initial assessment to conclude that its nationally recognized program is on the road to recovery earlier than expected. The Smithsonian Museum purchased some ash tree logs. The Baltimore Banner reported on the current status of Camp Small. #trees #conservation #wood #woodrecycling #recycling #environment https://lnkd.in/gpPFBq7U
