In very remote places like Saipan, happy/healthy/loving dogs are rarely adopted and #spayneuter is the only way to slow down heartbreaking euthanasia rates. With zero veterinarians on the island it can feel pretty impossible. This is exactly why Banfield Foundation and BluePearl Cares have committed to sending rotations of highly skilled ER and specialty veterinatians, incredible surgeons and the best vet techs in the business to make #accesstocare possible. In 2024 alone, more than 50 days of free veterinary care, mentorship and strategic support were provided. And just last month, we completed 750 spays/neuters + so many sick and well pet visits through the Mars Ambassador Program and our brilliant Ambassadors from Banfield Pet Hospital, BluePearl Pet Hospital and VCA Animal Hospitals. I’m also so proud that Banfield Foundation funded the opening of the only clinic on the island in partnership with Saipan Humane Society while BluePearl Cares volunteers trained, educated and mentored every staff member and animal control officer so 8,000 pets annually will have a chance for veterinary care even when we are not on the island. But we can’t do the work alone…If you’re a DVM or CVT/LVT/RVT with Mars Veterinary Health and would like to volunteer to spend 10 working days on the island of Saipan in 2025, message me! As always, we’ll cover travel costs if you volunteer your time. And together, we can help even more pets receive access to care and love while we work to #endingpethomelessness one spay/neuter at a time. #marsambassadorprogram #banfieldfoundation #bluepearlcares #abetterworldforpets #proudlymars

What a month October was! Flew out one weekend to the Navajo Nation in New Mexico to provide care to pets and the following weekend was back in Philly helping pets in need! Our New Mexico trip was a partnership between Banfield Foundation, Underdog Rescue and Red Rover, with support from Banfield Pet Hospital’s Banfield Gives Back program. Hundreds of cats and dogs were given preventative care and over a hundred pets were spayed and neutered! Red Rover also built enclosures and shelters for dogs as part of the Unchaining event. During our PSPCA Community Clinic in Philadelphia, 2 Banfield veterinarians, 1 CVT and 1 veterinary assistant provided care to 77 pets! I love our partnership with the PSPCA and being able to provide care to pets in our local community. 🧡

Before and after: from life on a 3 ft cable to a 200 sq ft space = increasing a dog’s world by 6,566% 🐕🥹📸 Banfield Foundation spent the weekend in on Navajo Nation working with RedRover and Underdog Animal Rescue and Rehab- Moab, UT doing what we do best — bringing access to care to more than 729 animals! But we also brought a new sense of freedom and room to roam to 32 of the most deserving pups including Red, Sally and Brian! 🫶🫶🫶 Due to a variety of reasons — including a lack of resources and financial means — many dogs on the Reservation spend their entire lives on short chains or in small confined spaces. We’re not here to judge, just to make life better by building large enclosures, expanding or completely removing chains, providing seasonal shade and warmth, comfortable houses as well as toys, treats, medical care and love. While we know dogs can’t talk — they can tell us plenty through their actions…and after this weekend, it sounded a lot like excited, relieved, happy, grateful. Vet Techs make our world go round — and our work possible! 🙌💪🙏 In fact, CVT / RVT / LVT volunteers have contributed more than 4,000 volunteer hours through our Care Knows No Boundaries (CKNB) travel program. With 62 individual veterinary technicians stepping up to serve at our clinics, their dedication to giving back (plus all that talent) is a true testament to the power of community and compassion.   One of our outstanding volunteers is Kayla Peters a CVT shift lead from Mercy Banfield Hospital in New Hampshire. Kayla has volunteered with us three times over the past year and is heading out on her fourth trip to Shiprock, New Mexico on an upcoming Banfield Foundation x Banfield Pet Hospital Gives Back spay/neuter clinic.   We are so grateful for all our hard working #vettech volunteers like Kayla — thank you helping us make preventive care possible for pets that need it most. 🧡🐕🐈🧡 Help us celebrate Kayla and ALL out vet tech friends during National Vet Tech Week by dropping a thank you comment below!   #banfieldfoundation #proudlymars #abetterworldforpets #endingpethomelessness

We’re just back from Hawaii where we spayed/neutered 534 pets in just six days — Mahalo to our seven amazing Banfield Foundation x Mars Ambassadors and our shelter partners Kauai Humane Society + Petfix Big Island. 🐕🌸🤙🏼😅 This year’s Mars Ambassador trip to Hawaii was solely focused on reducing the unwanted pet population and making a dent in the 4,000 + waitlist for low cost services for island residents. Countless large female dogs in need of life-saving surgery. A trip win included the team completing a pyometra surgery on a 105 lb Mastiff — the owner cried when he picked her up. 🥹🙏 And in between surgeries, the team took shelter dogs on field trips through Kauai Humane Society’s Beach Buddy field trip program — because there’s no better way to see the island than with a deserving dog! Thank you to our mighty team of veterinarians and technicians across Banfield Pet Hospital, BluePearl Pet Hospital and VCA Animal Hospitals ➡️ Amy Piper, Emily Lundstrom, BS RVT, Alexandra Schell, Karin Ziegler, Emily Beavers, Matias Bentacour, Megan Mersinger and #banfieldfoundation’s own superstar tech, Lacey Frame! #marsambassadorprogram #endingpethomelessness #abetterworldforpets #proudlymars

🎉🎉 Celebrating 9 Remarkable Years! 🎉🎉   This week marks the 9th anniversary of Banfield Foundation, and what a journey it’s been! Over the years, we’ve granted more than $22M to make preventive care possible for the pets that need it most. 🐾✨   Our grants have made a significant impact:   ✈ Care Knows No Boundaries: Our CKNB program breaks down geographic barriers to care by deploying teams of volunteer veterinarians and certified veterinary technicians to help deliver care to the vulnerable pets. From Native American Reservations in Alaska, Arizona, New Mexico, Montana, and South Dakota to the island of Puerto Rico and Saipan, more than 165 volunteers have provided care to 32,000 pets in under-resourced communities in need of veterinary support where there is none.   🐱 Community Care Grants: We strive to make veterinary care affordable and accessible for pets in need. That’s why we have funded medical supplies and services for animal shelters with on-site, mobile, or pop-up clinics helping 604,000 pets across the country.   🌩 Disaster Relief Grants: We’re committed to assisting nonprofit partners in providing crucial support to pets impacted by natural and other disasters, granting $1.8 million in financial and in-kind support for veterinary care, food, medication, supplies, and transportation of pets to safety.   🐶 HOPE Funds: Helping Overcome Pet Emergencies—or HOPE Funds- offers financial assistance for income-qualified pet owners facing life-threatening conditions. We have helped provide financial support to the owners of 1,409 pets by helping them overcome financial barriers and ensure they can provide and care for their pet.   Our nine-year milestone is a testament to the incredible Banfield Foundation team, dedicated partners, and passionate supporters. But this is just the beginning! Stay tuned for some exciting developments and new initiatives that will help us make an even bigger impact. Here’s to the next chapter in making #abetterworldforpets. 🧡   #banfieldfoundation #banfieldgivesback #endingpethomelessness #proudlymars

📍Saipan — a U.S. commonwealth with approximately 21,000 stray dogs and exactly zero veterinarians… Yesterday was Banfield Foundation’s 9th anniversary and we celebrated by sending an ER Criticalist DVM and CVT to Saipan to spend two weeks caring for as many dogs (and cats) as possible! Supporting nonprofits like Saipan Humane Society (and its founder Lauren Cabrera) was the vision when we launched the Foundation in 2015 — more care, more pets, more places! And I’m especially proud we’re finding new ways to do it…this year we’re hosting three Mars Ambassaor Program (MAP) assignments in Saipan — sending three rounds of veterinary teams from Banfield Pet Hospital and VCA Animal Hospitals to spay/neuter, diagnose, treat, educate, train and in some cases end painful and unnecessary suffering. It’s only been one day we’ve already cared for 40 pets with complex medical issues including 📸 a horrific necrotic mouth; an abdominal mast cell tumor; ascites and liver cancer, severe wounds + new mama waiting for a long overdue spay. PS. We’ve also granted nearly $23M since 2015 — and I’m very grateful for every dollar and every donor that has helped us remove geographic barriers and create #abetterworldforpets #marsambassadorprogram #banfieldfoundation #vca #banfield #proudlymars #endingpethomelessness

Two days on the Zuni Pueblo Reservation in New Mexico and we’ve already cared for more than 350 pets (and we’ve got two more days to go)! 🏜️🐾🚐🧡 + Look at the new spay / neuter surgery truck — the vehicle, lovingly named Halona, means “Community” or “Happy Place” in Zuni. 🫶😍 As always, a huge thank you to our incredible partners + all our amazing volunteers from Banfield Pet Hospital + the #zunipueblo Rangers + our donors for making this work possible! More than 4,500 services to 952 pet patients at Operation Border Health Preparedness 2024 — Texas’ largest disaster preparedness event enabling free veterinary care (and human health care) to families in under-resourced communities. This work took nearly 100 faculty and veterinary students from the Texas A&M University Veterinary Emegency Team (VET) as well as volunteers from the veterinary community including two Banfield Foundation CVTs from Banfield Pet Hospital. 🙌🙌 We’re proud to (once again) provide support to our partners at TAMU VET through the funding of medical supplies, vaccines and flea tick preventives to ensure pets receive the preventive care they need! Incredible work TAMU + all the volunteers who made this work possible! 👏👏 #banfieldfoundation #banfieldgivesback #banfieldpethospital #tamu #abetterworldforpets #proudlymars
