🚨 BREAKING: US Banks Lag on Climate Action 🚨 ❌ Our latest investigation into the 90 largest US banks reveals a worrying trend: an alarming 62% of the largest US banks do not disclose whether they are financing fossil fuels. This lack of transparency is a major concern 🚩, as it leaves consumers unaware of whether their money is supporting climate-friendly initiatives or contributing to environmental damage. ⚠️ Without transparency, consumers cannot make informed decisions about where they place their money. In a world facing an urgent climate crisis, knowing if your bank is funding fossil fuel projects or supporting green initiatives is crucial. 📊 Our findings: 🔸 Only 8 US banks, or roughly 9%, have measured the emissions resulting from their financing activities. 🔸 Only 12% of banks have a policy that prohibits lending to certain types of fossil fuels. 🔸 Only 18% of banks offer any kind of green financial product, and most of these banks fall short in overall climate performance. 💡 While many traditional banks lag behind, there are some sustainable banks that provide options for customers who want to align their financial choices with their climate-conscious values. 💪 As customers, we hold significant power. 🚨 According to Still Banking on Coal report, over the last 3 years, more than 600 banks worldwide have pumped $470 billion into the coal industry. Despite the Paris Agreement in 2016 and COP26 in 2021, banks' coal financing in 2023 totalled $136 billion - only 20% less than in 2016. That’s far from the progress needed to meet global climate targets. Why is coal funding still so high? Initiatives like the Net Zero Banking Alliance have delivered little impact so far. ⚠ Regulation is the missing piece.⚠ In Europe, regulations are driving down coal investments, with EU bank financing for coal more than halving since 2016. Meanwhile, anti-ESG policies in the US are keeping coal alive. 📢 It’s time for a regulatory shake-up!
